I always thought SMB1 was easy up until around of 8-2, which starts to show the cheap level design later showcased in SMB2j. Also, I've completed the DX version, and got up to 6-3 on SMB2j included in the game... ____________________ Good riddance! |

I haven't played SMB2j since I was 13; I wonder what I'd think of it today? I barely even remember it. I don't really have a way to play it without emulation right now, unfortunately... and I'm so spoiled after playing SMB1 on an actual NES and CRT that I dunno if I could play it with input lag I should prolly just suck it up. Or at least get Mario AllStars. That might be the reasonable thing to do. |

I mean, unless you're playing on a CRT and PS/2 keyboard or through some weird parallel port controller mod thing, then yeah. USB devices and LCD monitors have inherent lag, as far as I'm aware. |

Posted by RamblyThe delay isn't too bad on newer hardware. Between both, I should have a theoretical 3ms of delay. Majority of that being the monitor. But some cheaper hardware may have slower USB polling rates, thus higher delays. The world could always use more heroes! |

Heh, the last game I recently played on emulation was the SNES Chrono Trigger on SNES9x... ran fine on this laptop though, heh "Miracles happen, when you believe..."

Posted by Epele I use a crap $15 membrane keyboard usually to play games on PC, and the monitor I'm using is from 2008 or so, so that's probably not helping I do have a RetroUSB which I break out sometimes, but I don't know how good those are. They seem to feel kinda slow-ish, but I'm also guessing the main bottleneck is the monitor, here. I'm also kinda particularly sensitive to input lag because speedrunning made me really picky about it for some dumb reason. All that being said, if I'm actually gonna play SMB2j I'm still prolly gonna emulate it cuz that's the most feasible option for me right now. As for the last game I emulated, uh. Family Feud for SNES. Not even kidding. |

I'm playing Super Mario Bros. 2 again because I am a basic bitch. Also because I haven't actually played through it properly in yeaaaaaaaaars — I did a Speed Run Race of it with some friends of mine back in 2014 but it's hard to get a good impression of a game when you're pressured to play it as fast as you can The last time I played through it all the way without warps was seriously I think 2001 or something.
It made me realize that Wart is also a good boss, he's just kind of silly and adorable. Mario 2 in general doesn't get enough love. It's a shame Nintendo never really explored that gameplay style again, it feels really underexplored... but then I feel that way about Zelda 2, too, so... |

♥11817 ✿4707 ★51 Super Mario Bros. 2 is definitely my favorite of the NES trilogy; it's also one that I find easiest to just pick up and play even today. |

Heh, sometimes I find it a bit disappointing Lost Levels didn't get an NES cartridge release in North America and Europe, in like 1992 or 1993... didn't it get cancelled in favor of All-Stars? (Japan did get the US SMB2 as a late Famicom release as "Super Mario USA" OTOH) "Miracles happen, when you believe..."

Oh, yeah, sometime soon I'd like to give The Lost Levels another shot — probably in the form of playing SMB2j on an emulator, actually. I haven't played through it at all since 2004, and even back then I think I savestated like crazy, so it doesn't even really count.
I think Super Mario Bros. 3 is my favorite of the NES trilogy (+ World). Super Mario World might be a little easier for me to just pick up and play because it's a bit easier, but once I get into SMB3 I think I find that I enjoy it more. (Random aside: When I think of the "NES trilogy" of Mario games my mind tends to drift towards SMB1-3US, but also Lost Levels and World. So that's an "NES trilogy" that consists of 5 games, one of which is an SNES game ) |

Lost Levels is harder to play on the GBC port. Between the no going back and smaller resolution, you need to know some of the level layouts in advance. The world could always use more heroes! |

♥11819 ✿4707 ★51 Posted by Danika Possibly controversial, but IMO Lost Levels isn't a very good game-- if it wasn't for using the Mario engine and being a Mario game, it probably would be just another forgotten Famicom-only platformer. |
