The last thread about this is ancient, so...

I'm a little curious if Chrome is any less ubiquitous among this crowd than it would be around the average Internet crowd, so...

I use Firefox. I was using Chrome from like 2012-2017, but Quantum made me switch. I know a lot of people hate the Chromification of its layout, but Firefox was already pretty bad about that anyway — at least now its layout makes sense. Plus, I'm one of the tiny percentage of people who still likes flexible addons (i.e. uses addons that aren't just uBlock Origin or w/e). Also I kinda think Chrome looks aesthetically like a Mom browser that's used exclusively for Facebook. Also I like Google less than Mozilla.

Well enough about my stupid idiot crap. What browser does y'all like?

A lot more choice than the old poll too. I bet some people have migrated since too.

I used Chrome for a long time, but quit in favor or Pale Moon. the main issue I had with Chrome is the lag.

booting it took way too long, so unless I kept at least one tab open at all times I had to sit through the wait. be it when starting the browser for google, or clicking a link sent to me.
outside of boot, there was also some lag from having too many tabs open at once. it's a rare occurence, but erg.

I used to be an avid Firefox user, but a couple years ago fed up with how slow it was becoming, I jumped ship to Pale Moon.

When on Windows XP I use a fork of Pale Moon called New Moon which just has compatibility patches applied to make it run.

If I'm doing web design I'll use other browsers for compatibility testing, the most frequent browser I test with is Retrozilla (which is based on Firefox 2 I believe.)

When on Plan 9front I use Mothra, which is the ultimate web browser. :V

I use Firefox primarily; I think Mozilla is the best hope to avoid a Chromium monoculture, but it's not looking good :/

I was using Chrome til I heard that Firefox is supposed to be faster now. I even thought about going back, but I got sick of how it tried to persuade me to integrate into the Google ecosystem, with the way it tethers the browser to your Gmail account and all.

Quantum has been a much needed update to Firefox, and I like it more now, but I still don't like using it as a default browser. I do have Firefox Developer Edition installed though. Also, I never liked Chrome.

Currently using Opera, though I do seem to be switching between it and Vivaldi every once in a while. I really want to fully switch to Vivaldi, but even after v2.1 launched, there's still some features missing or hidden compared to Opera. Not to mention, because of its heavily customized UI, opening and closing windows is a bit slower than I'm used to.

Firefox on all my mainline systems (anything newer than first-gen i-series), XP/Vista and 2000 get Pale Moon and variants ;)

The line between them last time I checked was even more blurred.

It's part of why I jumped to Pale Moon. Firefox was just losing its own identity all the time, blending in with the Chromium crowd. Switching over, it's how I remember it. The old Firefox experience.

Else, I would have gone back to Internet Explorer.. but the site compatibility in it is just terrible.

what I remember of Internet Explorer is that it screws AJAX. so that's neat.
Edge being a cheap refurbished IE, you may have more luck with that if you nevermind it's a sinking boat.
it does fixes some stuff, but from what I recall it largely derps in the same way IE did. the new interfaces felt like unfitting gadget, not quite fully functional nor practical.

there's also these news. tldr; Edge is to be discontinued and replaced with a chrome-based browser.
shoutout to the ones saying that Chromium is being shoved down most mainstream browsers.

Chrome and Blink is honestly becoming the new IE6. Hmm, I wonder what will happen to the IE6 guy in 2025, will he be the Chrome 67 guy once another browser takes the monopolising spot eventually after people realise this? (I dislike Chrome's new rounded UX, its previous one was fine...) - fun fact, making Chrome a monopoly cuts out iOS altogether (like how IE6 screwed over most of the other OSes back then for the web) because you can't use the Blink engine on an iPhone... no wonder so many sites just look odd on my iPhone...

Aside from that, I use Pale Moon (or Mypal on XP/Vista). It works and is decently customisable even if I have a problem with the devs, they did manage to make a pretty decent browser.

I use Firefox (at work exclusively) and I use a browser called Vivaldi. (I actually have a rocky history with Vivaldi and don't exactly recommend it but I am too lazy to change.)

Vivaldi is a chrome fork by some of the no-longer-opera opera developers. Firefox is a kitsune on fire (hi).

I use Chromium, and Safari (being a Raspbian + iOS user).

I know this is supporting browser monoculture but honestly, Chromium is probably the best browser for running on a Raspberry Pi - Firefox 53+ doesn't work on ARMHF either, so yeah.

I've been using Pale Moon as my main browser for a few weeks now. Performance is close to (if not a bit faster than) Firefox 56 but it's a lot more customizable and i can use old add ons. I still keep Firefox around for when I need to stream video but almost every page I visit renders the same in both.

Pale Moon, with uMatrix to block everything ever. Once things are configured it all works well, and I can feel a bit more relieved than with Firefox. Firefox is corporate disguised as privacy-friendly.

I'm on Opera 60. Used to use Firefox until it started having super nasty memory leaks, causing hardware issues with mky NAT, and deciding to yeet all of their extensions, which really broke it for me.

Been on Opera for two months, and it's probably my favorite thing now, aside from a few niggles I wish I could sort out.

My history with browsers has been mostly jumping back and forth between Chrome and Firefox. Chrome when I wanted to sell my soul to Google in a manic episode, Firefox when I wanted to be free and edgy. Of course, I eventually realized they're both sponsored under Google's corporate wingspan.

I messed with a lot of forks, like Chromium or Waterfox, but eventually settled with Pale Moon. The default start page is trash, but once changing it and installing uBlock Origin you're set.

As for Opera... I've had it installed at some point. I never really understood it though. I remember when I was little I used it because I thought it was something cool and alternative. Still don't know anything about it, really

I've been using Vivaldi for the last half-year or so, and I got pretty used to its quirks by now (not to mention, a lot of bugs got fixed since then). I switched away from Opera because it started changing too many things about its browser/interface and trying to make everything more simple for the casual internet user.

I wanted to use Firefox (as an alternative to the Chromium ecosystem) but I honestly can't get used to it, even after Quantum happened. I have it installed as a backup in case I ever need to use it.

At work, we are obligated to use Google Chrome only.
