I installed Vista and 7 with same amount of RAM (1 gb) on my I5 8 gb ram probook and Vista doesn't just run noticeably faster, it is almost completely superior in speed. 7 had a ton of slowdowns that reminded me of using a 15 year old XP desktop.. |

Microsoft did a good job salvaging Vista after the initial release. Too bad all the software seems to have lost support for it alongside XP. I'll admit 7 can be a bit heavy sometimes, specially on old computers, moreso than 8 or 10. Aero is more taxing than you'd think.
I have a spare computer that got here a while ago at home that has 2GB of RAM and an Athlon XP @2GHz. Whoever was using it decided it would be a great idea to put Windows 7 in it and it runs as well as you'd expect. No browsers install (except for IE11) because no SSE2 support, Windows Explorer crashes if you right click an executable and hit "Properties", etc. Fun times. Probably will be replacing the system in it with XP + some lightweight Linux and using it for miscellaneous projects. "The quieter you become, the more you are able to hear." --Ram Dass |
