With Windows, there's always been setting to turn on and off hidden in the registry. I'm going to share a list of things I've found here. Most of this is specific to Windows 10, but some may work on older versions.
If anyone has anything I've not stumbled upon yet, feel free to share it here. The world could always use more heroes! |

nice! some of these were missing for me, I reckon it's because I stopped updating windows 10 early on.
I doubt the features for those are even in. ____________________ there's a link here. |

Some of these don't show up in the registry unless you create the keys. Startup delay is one example, as I had to create it. Makes a considerable difference too. The world could always use more heroes! |

Winaero Tweaker is a good interface for a ton of registry mods, but it's easy to destroy your system in the process. It's closed source, though. |

Posted by Tierage Mind sharing what you'd typically disable for a Windows 10 Pro 1903 installation? Also, On a related note, it's possible to make Windows 10's taskbar a lot more reminiscent of Vista/XP - I wrote a blog entry describing how to do this a few days ago. Won't link it here though ![]() |

I just make the taskbar smaller and don't hide labels, but I wish there was a way to always combine and I do kinda miss the taskbar. Has anyone used a find and replace tool? I did when I changed my username (and even then some applications have to be manually edited) but I can't remember the exact one I used, I think it was Advanced Regedit. ____________________ produced by or under license from cat witches co, ltd |

I spent a long time looking for a way to make Windows 10 look exactly like the Windows classic theme (pre-XP, anyway) and I guess it exists. It looks clunky but there's the link if you're interested in making everything grey and pixelated as god intended.
EDIT: After testing this on 1809 I can confirm this will destroy everything. EDIT2: Don't use this. It's not malicious, it just breaks file explorer and metro settings. It's really interesting though, and worth testing in a VM if you want to see how Microsoft hides things but doesn't remove them. |

In that case there's this, though I've never tried it myself. ____________________ produced by or under license from cat witches co, ltd |

While we're on the subject of ricing/customization:
MacType - Font smoothing a la Mac OS / Linux / literally anything other than Windows OldNewExplorer - Removes the ribbon from file Explorer and has the simple bar from Windows 7 instead. 7+ Taskbar Tweaks - Some cool taskbar mods. |

A hard to find registry tuning.
Disable Gamebar Presence Writer Important: For this to work, you will need to change the permissions of the key to allow administrators to edit it. By default, this key is blocked from being changed.
This is not an easy tweak to apply, and certainly for advanced power-users who do not want the GameDVR to even persist in any form while gaming. The world could always use more heroes! |
