I'm honestly suprised at how good this looks. I mean, it actually looks like the modern browser equivalent, compared to other websites.

I bet it takes up a tenth of the memory of a modern browser as well.

Sweet! Which one of the terminal browsers did you use? I used to use lynx all the time but it didn't have 256 color support (well when I used it 256 color terms were not a thing..)

Looks really good! I'm glad the formatting reflects well without the images. If we tweaked it a bit with a few more alts here and there it would be extremely close! I'm glad to see the creative use of term colors..

I have to say, that looks pretty clean. I bet some other sites just look like a pile of word puke.

I used elinks, and yeah, 99% of the rest of the internet looks like barely readable garbage. I think the reason Acmlmboard looks so good is because it uses tables, meanwhile all other websites seem to use lists and div elements which get beautified with CSS. Here's an example of a not as well optimized website. ;)

But still, it's not perfect, and while I don't see any issues with the images (all important images have alt names), some things, like post toolbars, totally break.

Kids these days and their GUIs. They'd all die from a command line interface.

darkwitchclaire post

It seems I can get to the board just fine on elinks but not log in... probably a limitation of the package included with my distro.

Now, if this was Acmlmboard 1.x, you could just post without being logged in :P

I think there remains some bits of fragments of code for a system to allow logged out posting.

It'll run hell with the Permissions system though.

Terminal browsers are mostly a novelty but they're useful when installing a Linux distro with no GUI and you need to grab something from the web.

Then there's qutebrowser, which controls like a terminal browser but isn't one. fun things

Usually when I'm in a situation where a terminal browser would be useful, I end up forgetting they exist and just curling the page and digging through the HTML for what I wanted.
