For a couple years, I've used some cheap pair of earphones I bought from my local store. They were pretty good. Recently they finally broke, so I've been looking for a replacement. I tried to buy more of the same I bought intially, but the newer models have bizarre sound quality that just sounds.. bad.
The kind of earphone I've been looking for happens to be classic earphones, as in the not-intra-auricular kind. The name difference is pretty ambiguous, so there's not a wide selection to choose from online.

So I tried to buy some of the top-rated earphones I could find online, and to my dismay, they all suck. Right now, only one of them is barely a pass. The sound quality is fine, there's only one issue: bass boost.
I don't know why this has become a standard. There's literally no option without it. The bass boost goes too far and no matter how much of quality the earphones might be, it doesn't sound right. Vocals sound distant and I cannot enjoy my music without the bass drilling my ears. I cannot judge how things are supposed to sound while remixing either, so that hobby's come to a halt. I need a replacement and I need it to be good.

My ears are pretty sensitive, so I'm picky about my my gear when it comes to listening. I cannot go with intra-auricular earphones (I tried) because I cannot put up with having stuff directly in my ear canal, and the intense vibration is no good. Add to that the overall inconvenience, and I'm gonna have to pass. That leaves either classic earphones, or headphones. I've exhausted the former, so I suppose only the latter remains.

I rarely use headphones, so I'm clueless of what to look for. I'm not trusting reviews a second time after how the mess with earphones was, hence the reason I made this thread.
I'd like to know what you use right now or have used, and what you would recommend. Earphones and headphones of any type are fine, so long as they sound good and aren't bass-boosted. I can try to put up with those in-ear monstruosities so long as they sounds good.

Any suggestions are welcome.

I used to use some Sennheiser HD 201 Lightweight headphones. I'm no audiophile or anything so take whatever I have to say with a grain of salt, but they sounded pretty good to me. The particular model I used has been discontinued, so you may have to look on ebay or something since I know nothing of any other models. They claim to have "bass-driven sound" but I don't recall there being any bass boost, the only real issue was that the sound overall was a tad "thin" and quiet to me. I figured that may be beneficial in your case since you stated your ears are sensitive. The sound overall felt very neutral to me, I didn't feel any overabundance in highs, mids or lows, so they should be pretty good. Especially for their fairly low price, they're amazing in my experience. I'd probably just give Sennheiser a look in general since I've heard mostly good things about their products.

Look up AKG Y50 if they're still around. I have those. I prefer over-ear and those are on-ear but they're very comfortable and they isolate against external sounds more than you think because they sit so well over your ears due to the pads.

Your ears might get warm after using them but this is just at the start. They're not that expensive and they have great sound for the price.

I've recently got an inexpensive pair of wired OneOdio headphones for laptop things, and I've been pretty pleased with them. They fit comfortably over my ear, and the sound quality is very good.

They are a bit on the bulkier side though, but I only use them at home, so that doesn't matter much to me. Your mileage may vary.

if you're fine with bigger headphones that are hard to take around with you, i recommend JVC HA-RX700. they have better sound than any other headphones i've used and are well balanced

I am also not an audiophile, but if price isn't necessarily a concern to you, you may wanna check out audiotechnica headphones. A lot of audiophiles on YouTube use them as their studio editing headphones and such, so it's definitely quality.
