So, my mother needs a new Windows laptop and I'm.. not sure where to start.
Ideally I'd like to find a PC that's built to last, for a fair price. I have no specs requirements, but we do have other requirements: -a large keyboard (has to cover most of the surface). this is the most importance factor -3 usb ports minimum -the keyboard has to not be black. this one's not a hard requirement, what's important is that the keyboard is easily readable by someone with bad vision. black on white is easier to read. and optionally, -has a dvd drive. I'd like some advice if you have any ideas. Thanks~ ____________________ there's a link here. |

♥13544 ✿4736 ★69 My go-to non-Chromebook parent laptop recommendation is usually the Lenovo ThinkPad (the low-end ones, not the fancier series); but they certainly don't come in white. That's a unique requirement. |

i'd say panasonic lets note, but those are only sold in japan otherwise you might want to look into refubished laptops but i'm not sure off the top of my head which business laptops had white keyboards ____________________ produced by or under license from cat witches co, ltd |

If it wasn't for the stipulation that the keyboard MUST be white, I would suggest the Toshiba Satellite line. The last time I got one of them, it was a black and silver motif. I liked it, but I don't think your mom would. |

Truthfully, those particular specifications are... a little difficult. You'll most likely sacrifice at least one of them to some extent, the most notable being build quality and price. Good build quality generally comes at a steep price for laptops, but it seems you want something more general-purpose and not something high end. Chromebooks are the easiest thing that fall within your specifications and alongside Nicole I personally also would've suggested ThinkPads if not for the odd "has to be white" stipulation. That being said, I found a couple that might be worth looking into, though they are over a thousand bucks so they're on the pricier end of things.
Dell XPS Laptop LG Gram 14 None of them have a DVD drive though, if direly needed you'll probably want an external one. ____________________ Giant Paratroopa Affected by 'Wooster Syndrome' ++++!! Handsome Gentleman 7/23/18 |

Thanks a lot for the feedback!
Unfortunately, I failed to deliver some key details. Sorry about that. -It has to be a PC. Nothing we can do about it, as my mother's been using Windows 7 for years. I plan to grab a Windows 10 and windows7ify it as much as possible. -The laptop doesn't have to be white, rather it just has to not be black. This is due to black keyboards being less readable. -We're not very stingy with the price. 1000 is fine for a laptop meant to last. I updated the first post with these details. ____________________ there's a link here. |

I ended up going for a laptop roughly about ~500€. I gave up on going for a white laptop that fit our specifications as it was well above a thousand.
I'm pretty satisfied with my pick. Grey color, 3 usb ports, a resolution fit for someone older, and a dvd drive to boot. Also, I checked out all your suggestions. They're quite interesting, maybe we should do a Recommended Hardware thread sometime. ____________________ there's a link here. |

Posted by Thieppy Glad you found something that worked. Yeah, white specifically was definitely the most difficult thing to factor in. Actually, if I recall correctly white plastic is more expensive than gray or black for some reason to build laptops with, though I'm no expert on laptops so don't quote me on that. Recommended Hardware Thread does indeed sound interesting, though what hardware to recommend is largely dependent on what you want. Not sure how such a thread would be structured. ____________________ Giant Paratroopa Affected by 'Wooster Syndrome' ++++!! Handsome Gentleman 7/23/18 |
