Anyone here who still uses Windows 7? I am. In fact, I have it installed and running on a 2018 Dell laptop. It had Windows 10, but I wiped it and replaced it with 7 in September. Later, after Thanksgiving, I swapped the HDD for an SSD and swapped the 4GB of Ram for 8GB. On the SSD went Windows 7. I have been impressed with both ever since.

I still use 7 as I found that I just do not want to use Windows 10 full-time, at least right now. Out of all my laptop's only three have 10 (and one is Windows 10 build 10240 x64 Pro) One day, I'll move to 10, whether it be I'm forced to or I build a souped up gaming laptop.

I have an attachment to 7 and am not ready to give it up.

P.S. I posted this from a Windows 2000 installation found on one of my many laptops (I have a lot).

I do but I'll have to migrate to Windows 10 soon.

Have an old computer? If you do, it is probably better to get a new one rather than upgrade the old one to 10 (even though you can do it for free still).

I'm not migrating to Windows 10 anytime soon. I'm sticking with 7 for as long as I can.

I used Windows 7 for the longest time, but migrated to 10 fairly recently since I figured it wasn't worth it anymore to die on that hill. Thankfully I have a license of the OS for free since I nabbed Windows 10 back when the free upgrade was a thing, but at the time reverted back to 7 due to my immense detestment for it.

Truthfully if not for compatibility issues, I'd be content to use Windows XP forever.

I do have a new one. Just need to move the GPU and a couple harddrives to the new machine.

I still miss Windows 7.

I'm using Windows 10, but that's because I need to use it for hardware requirements.

What computer do you use? Chances are the hardware included within it likely has Windows 7 drivers. If you have AMD Radeon R4 graphics, that still supports Windows 7 with worst case scenario being having to edit the driver .inf to add in your specific processor subset (E.G. AMD Stoney, which is a subset of the Radeon R4).

Oh, I could run Windows 7.. but a bunch of hardware features turn off, like Variable Refresh Rate. G-Sync compatibility is only in Nvidia drivers for Windows 10. (maybe 8, but who would use 8?)

Also, having to use hacks to disable Windows' "unsupported hardware" nags just because I have a 2700X CPU is lame.. though, I did use it for a while.

uh, I had Windows 7 on 12/24/2020 12:01 AM on a small computer (Canaima Venezuelan computer) everything worked fine, but at the beginning of January I failed in key 2 and then 4 and then the p and finally the n Spain and apparently Santa Claus gave it to me with a virus and software malfunction and my little brother downloaded Undertale and gave him covid 19 on the computer.

and now I have my life in ruins, I have to wait to hire an expert in computer repair

every now and then i'll reinstall windows 7, but then i'll find something about it that makes me go back to windows 10, or maybe having my biannual linux phase before going back to windows 10.

for me, it ultimately boils down to nostalgia rather than any practical use. i'll miss that windows classic theme though.

I do, because no way this laptop from 2011 is ever getting upgraded.

It's already slow as-is because of Windows Rot™ (which incidentally, is a perfect way to test if software is slow and poorly written), so I can only imagine how it'd be with 10.

Honestly if not for the constant crap Microsoft forces down your throat with it I'd really have no problem with 10. To my knowledge it's objectively built better than 7, and in some regards I have had less problems having installed it on my computer rather than forcing myself to stick with 7, but it's also been more frustrating in some regards.

I really hate the new Windows 10 "settings" panel, it doesn't work nearly as well as the old Control Panel from 7 (though thankfully they kept it in 10 so I can still use it anyway). I also disabled Cortana and don't use the Windows Store or any app nonsense on it.

I held onto Windows 7 up until October something 2020 when I finally bit the bullet and went full-on Linux on my desktop. Never looked back since. I still have a dualboot setup with my Windows 7 installation on a separate SSD, but I've never had to boot back into it except for once to move over some MySQL databases.

Linux is pure computing bliss, I tell ya.

I don't think I've got a single W7 device, ironically. The last one I would've had that ran the OS I ended up downgrading to XP on so I could run things a bit more stable on it (it's an ASUS Eee PC 1005, netbook from the stone age when they made netbooks). That one is actually still in use on display in the living room running metrics for BOINC with its lovely screen saver.

At the office, I have a Windows XP and Windows 98 machine ready for random things that may pop up. Hell, I have a working IBM Model Z 286 with Windows 3.0 on its 30MB HDD...
