I recently got hooked on that minecraft game. Today while I mucked around I was inspired to create a thread about it. And here it is.
I've only been playing minecraft for a few months, so don't expect great feats of architecture. On the other hand, W00t--I've made my first thread! Enough of my yakkin', let's take a look at those creations. 1. Square Bipyramidal Pool ~ 1 hour I'm not one to name my creations, much less make interesting titles, haha. After wracking my brain I remembered this chemistry term and stuck with it. Main View Full Size Looking Up View Full Size Top View -- Looks like a giant X. Full Size Pool View Full Size Side View Full Size 2. Overflowing Fountain ~ 15 minutes I wasn't sure how to go about making a fountain, but I eventually came up with this. Much to my amusement, the fountain looked a lot like a Christmas tree when it started snowing. Outside View Full Size Water Underneath Full Size Water Diagram -- I removed a few blocks underneath the fountain--this picture shows how exactly the water now falls. Full Size Water Inside Full Size 3. Kafuka Text ~ 30 minutes After realizing that I could use paint to map out the letters, I couldn't help but try this. Normal Text Full Size Reversed Text -- With that whole reversed thread title gag, why not. Besides all I really had to do was go behind it. Full Size Paint -- Each pixel represents a block. Simple. Full Size Faded -- Toggled the visibility level so that only the text is seen. Full Size Those were pretty simple, but they're starting points from which I'll work forward. Plus, it was fun reprieve. So, that's it. |

Well, I guess it was only a matter of time. Does Minecraft really count as "art", especially in such... mediocre fashion? |

Maybe not, but it does require some level of creativity.
So I guess I'm mostly showcasing that in particular. I recently watched this episode of Ted Talks about a renown architect who was famous for his creativity in designing buildings. I believe that this is similar. As someone who doesn't have many resources and is a poor artist (plus is only doing this for recreation), this game serves as a medium, albeit mediocre. Of course there may be better programs, but this was an easy and accessible substitute. |
