15th Limestone, 201, Early Autumn
Construction on a wall has been started. We need a fortification as soon as possible, so we can both stay safe from the mucus and from the horrors that lurk beyond the hole. I ordered it made out of the ice that we're mining from our mining endevors; it looks quite nice.
Also, due to the grace of whatever may be watching over us, Trint's sight has come back! Perhaps in the heat of the battle, the beast threw mucus in his eyes. Nonetheless, I have enlisted him back into the militia, but asked him to continue his stone crafting job until we needed him. We're running low on barrels, and rock pots are going to be needed unless we find a good source of wood below.
18th Sandstone, 201, Mid-Autumn
There appears to be a bit of a problem in constructing the fortification. My fellow Dwarves seem to become frightened the higher they are in the air, understandably, and as the mucus pelts them they flee and head off to "rest". Rest what, I do not know, I see no wounds, but they refuse to work on that tile of ice again until I reassure them the big bad mucus is gone. It's embarrasing.
Our mining operations are pretty much done, now. We need a bit more ice, so I'm ordering more ice excavation, but other than that we are indeed done. I'm ordered the barracks to be set up, with Lesh training there probably daily. She is very dedicated to keeping us alive.
22th Sandstone, 201, Mid-Autumn
Immigrants appear on the horizon! I was setting ice into place on our fortification, when I saw them running around screaming while a wolf ran in random directions near them. Poor wolf. It seems blind, probably from over exposure to the mucus. I ordered Lesh to put it out of its misery. We can't have it somehow harming anyone.
23rd Sandstone, 201, Mid-Autumn
Seven new immigrants. Maybe they send a new expedition party, expecting us to have died, for all I know. Nonetheless, we have seven new members: Trame the miner, Peir the Craftsdwarf, Sorc the Glassmaker, Skirn the Shearer, Put the Farmer, Kou the Spinner, and Naraz the Thresher. Most of them appear married to each other.
Out of all of them the only one I was excited to meet was Trame. She seems like a fine women, and is a miner at that! We don't need shearers or threshers in the frozen wastes, but a miner we can use! Forgive me for being calculating, but I am merely looking after our safety. I also enlisted Put into the militia since he seemed to have the most useless job of them all. He objected, but he quieted rather quickly when Lesh went to drag him off to the barracks. Sixteen people now I have to take care of. Armok help us.
17th Timber, 201, Late Autumn
A caravan! They appeared from the south west, a few armored guards and freshly groomed merchants. They waded through the mucus with disgusted faces, which were equally disgusted when they saw we were covered in the stuff. Honestly, I'm just glad the stuff doesn't leave piled into the fortress.
I named myself broker of the fortress, abruptly but only a few objected, and am going to go trade with them now.
26th Timber, 201, Late Autumn
Nothing! Absolutely nothing for trade! I may as well have traded with an Elf!
A few barrels of booze and some fish. True, food is good, but no wood? No metals? We had plenty of stupid earings to trade to them, and they brought nothing. Well I am certainly going to tell the ambassador what we need this time. He's been following me around and staring at me, it's really creeping me out.
But first I will have a drink, this has worked me up.
13th Moonstone, 201, Early Winter
It took a while but I finally scheduled that meeting with the ambassador. Along with some wood and metal, I asked for some armors and weaponry. By next Fall we should have enough goods to trade with the, if all goes well. I hope it will.
The ambassador is leaving and the traders will soon follow him. It's now winter, and the fortress is growing ever colder. There is a horrible chill in the air everywhere I go.
19th Opal, 201, Mid-Winter
Work on the tower has been the most important work this Winter, though it is very dangerous and unforgiving work. I have, guiltily, ordered myself and the other miners back down below so that we can mine out Tor's forge. It's about time Tor gets to work, and we have plenty of coal laying around for him to do so.
15th Obsidian, 201, Late Winter
An ice wolf ran across the drawbridge and attacked out masondwarves today. Thankfully our brave militia was nearby; they managed to fend them off effectively, and no injuries were reported. I'm still worried though: if things like this keep happening, injuries WILL occur. And we have no doctor. I don't want to appoint someone doctor without experience, though, I've heard horror stories. Hopefully one will appear on the horizion soon.
17th Obsidian, 201, Late Winter
More ice wolves! I must admit, of all the things to attack, I'm glad it's an ice wolf and not some... undulating worm or something. That would be horrible. No, mundane wolves I can live with.
No damages again, but I asked the militia to go take out the rest of the ice wolf pack to the north west. They could do with the training practice, anyway.
21 Obsidian, 201, Late Winter
The Ice Wolves lay dead, and we lay victorious! Trint suffered minor injuries, but in all the militia remains untouchable. As a reward for fighting bravely, I am upgrading Put from wrestler to axedwarf. We are low on axes, but Zeek rarely uses her's for cutting wood so I am giving it to Put. We can make new ones soon anyway.
1st Granite, 202, Early Spring
Spring has arrived. The young fortress of Honorbands has survived the harsh winter with minimal injuries and no deaths. We are only 16 strong, but we are Dwarves! We shall persevere.
END OF JOURNAL
I'll upload the game and send it off to you, GM. G'luck. Play it how you'd like, but I already made one charcoal so I suggest starting up the bitumous coal smithing, and I'm trying to get some ropes so I can make traction benches and ropes for dogs to protect the bridge. The construction outside is going slowly due to weird injury bugs, but we'll live. You can Roleplay it out if you'd like, as Murob or as someone else I don't mind.
