I used to write screensavers once. Then I switched to another monitor system that didn't do the whole "burn-in" thing. Black screens are where it's at.
My last one was in VB6, and bluescreened when I tried to multiply by Screen.TwipsPerPixelX  |

Posted by Kawa I doubt I would write a screensaver at this point in time, but back in the early 90's it was on my 'not-a-bucket list'. I stopped using screensavers in Windows pretty much since After Dark was no longer a thing. I loved those classic screensavers from school.
I did (and I guess I still from time-to-time) use XScreenSaver on Unix/Linux/OSX since they have a really good set of interesting screensavers that I would actually look at. That said if I ever was to consider making one it would be for that system. I soley Win-L/CTRL-SHIFT-EJECT on windows/mac to lock the screen. When I run X11, I use XScreenSaver but mostly to a blank screen with a "META-L" style trigger. There was an Acmlmboard RPGmaker game but who knows what happened to that. I hadn't saved anything when it struck, but I knew what little code I had and needed by heart. Rewriting was quick and painless. |

After Dark had a nifty collection back in the day..
The only reason I use one now is for when I'm doing something which doesn't involve using the mouse or keyboard as a sort of "idle warning". The world could always use more heroes! |
