Do we got any other hardware upgrade fanatics here?
Looking at a new video card? New CPU? What are your plans for upgrades this year? Maybe a new laptop or tablet? Or are you getting one of them new handy dandy smartphones? I plan on blowing my years taxes and checks on my new rig with AM3+ and hopefully a motherboard with a new chipset for pcie3.0 for the radeon hd 7xxx series. Starting off I'll be getting the ThermalTake Level 10 GT FullTower, and try to hold off on a Mobo til the new AMD chipset for pcie3.0 And if you're not upgrading anytime soon, what kinda specs are you running right now? Right now I'm running: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition Thuban 3.2GHz AM3 (with COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus RR-B10-212P-G1) KINGWIN Lazer LZ-1000 1000W Modular 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified PSU IN WIN IW-F430.RL Mid-Tower Chassis (the one that makes the noise of a ferrari when it starts) ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 SAPPHIRE 100315L Radeon HD 6850 x2 G.SKILL Sniper 8GB (4 x 4GB) F3-10666CL9D-8GBSR 20'' Acer Moniter (too old to remember the model), and a 40'' Element TV |

No plans to upgrade, I'm happy with my simple tower.
AMD Phenom II x4 840 3.2Ghz 4GB Ram 2x 500GB Samsung hard drives. Samsung BD-ROM drive. Dell SX2210T Touchscreen Nvidia GeForce GT 430 Those are the things I can easily identify/remember. Not exactly impressive, but does what I want it to. The world could always use more heroes! |

Ferdal, I don't know if you read about Bulldozer performance, but from your system you should better go Intel, as you already have about the fastest AMD CPU there is now. Unless you are an AMD fan of course...
Also, since your system is already so fast now, you better wait for Q2 as hard drive prices will drop, and Nvidia will have its new range too, causing all GPU prices to drop. Also, I am not impressed by the only 20 % advantage over the GTX 580 that the Radeon 7xxx series have. I am not into high-end hardware as I don't have the money, and even if I did I would probably still go for the price-performance ratios. At the moment I have: Core i7-870 @ 3,25 GHz P55 chipset GeForce GTX 560 Ti 8 GB RAM @ 1480 MHz 60 GB SSD 2 TB HDD And I intend to keep it for some years (it helps to not be interested in the newest games). The only heavy thing I do is fractal rendering, which is all about CPU speed, cores and efficiency. ____________________ I don't give a flying feather |

I've wanted to get a new computer for years, but I am so inexperienced I don't know what I should get. ._.
This thing I'm running on is from 2004 and more than ready for the computer graveyard. |

Posted by LilianaIt really depends on what you want to do with it. If it's just for Internet and casual gaming, you can get a € 400 12" netbook. If you want Full HD movies and the latest action games, or you want to do a lot of video-editing, you can basically make it as expensive as you want ____________________ I don't give a flying feather |

...yeah I suppose.
I'm not really into the newest games. But I have some older ones, like Simcity 4, that really struggle on the current computer, and those could definitely use an upgrade. |

Posted by LilianaAny computer nowadays can run that one. A netbook does not have an optical (CD/DVD) drive, so you should go for a notebook/desktop PC. So the questions that remain are, do you want portability, and how large do you want your screen. ____________________ I don't give a flying feather |

I've been wondering about that myself... I do tend to wander around a lot, on the other hand, I don't know how comfortable a laptop would be, given that I've worked with a desktop for years. (Also, that option would very obviously be more expensive... :/ ) |

Desktops are still somewhat cheaper than equally-powered laptops, but the difference certainly isn't as big any more as it used to be.
Also, with desktops, you can buy any keyboard and monitor you find comfortable to work with. The downside is of course the lack of portability. ____________________ I don't give a flying feather |

My PC Desktop is a full tower and contains:
I also have a Mac Mini Core i5 w/ 4 GB ram and 500GB HD, and my latop is a MBP 15" with 4GB RAM and 320GB HD. I have more computers, but those are the ones I use on a daily basis. Well I heard the current mobos that are AM3+ for the FX 8xxx aren't really that great. Just like current USB3 support on mobos back when it first came out, wasn't really worth it over USB2. I suspect the new AMD chipset and mobos with it will be better with the newer hardware when they are released, and I've read reviews on the 7xxx series outperforming the best GTX's OCed out there for about what 100 bucks cheaper.
And then like I said, AMD's always cheaper and that appeals a lot more to me than a little speed boost. I'm not paying a grand for a new CPU, that's just crazy. And I've used both Intel and AMD before and haven't seen too much of a difference, but this was about three or four years ago. |

I'm not really sure what I want to upgrade right now.. I want more storage space (currently sitting at 2TB/4TB used), and I might get a new GFX card (currently on a NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450) but it's not on the top of the list since it deals with everything I use perfectly right now. |

Posted by FerdalTrue, but AMD can still overprice this card (the production is much cheaper) until there are competing models. And I believe there is a lot more to gain than 20 % from a die shrink. And since you have an AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition Thuban 3.2GHz, which is still the fastest AMD desktop processor around (!), you should not change that until Piledriver is there. Intel Sandy Bridge-E is too expensive indeed, but the regular Sandy Bridge Core i7-2600 is still a very good deal, albeit still not worth the upgrade from what you now have. Edit: main reason I have Intel myself is the thermal envelope, as I like to build my systems to be as quiet as possible (I once had water cooling but it is a lot of maintenance and it started to leak after a few years, killing my Radeon 9800 Pro). ____________________ I don't give a flying feather |

Ah, I see where you're getting at now. Yeah that's some good advice. I'll have to take another look into it, but definitely gonna start with the Level 10 GT, that tower is sooooo beast.
I might be getting a midrange laptop this year. Not sure yet almost splurged last month on a new one. I dunno if I can get into the whole tablet business just yet. My phone's enough of all that noise. |

Posted by FerdalReally, tablets are fun, and that's it. They are much slower and pricier than netbooks, and a real keyboard and trackpad costs extra. But yeah, you do get to touch your angry birds... ____________________ I don't give a flying feather |

Intel Core i7 at 2.67 GHZ (stock speed)
6GB RAM Two 1TB harddrives (the second one is about 90% full already, first is half-full). Radeon HD 5850 Two 19 inch screens, both 1280x1024 Windows 7 Had it for two years, already had to replace the GPU fan (it went noisy) and the PSU (fan stopped working and it would overheat). I probably won't bother upgrading other than replacing what breaks, although i probably would buy a new computer in 1-2 years at the earliest. Maybe I should get a widescreen monitor. ____________________ AIM: gamefreak1337, MSN: Emil_sim@spray.se, XMPP: ailure@xmpp.kafuka.org, YouTube

I'd like a new video card but I don't even game on my PC a fraction what I used to. My system's fairly old but my CPU is still rockin' the house!
