As you may or may not have known I've been moving the last few weeks. The new apartment is really just across the hall, but you don't realize how much even that can be a chore. So a month later, I've moved, thrown out a lot of stuff, moved a lot of stuff, got a custom desk built in a much better apartment.

All in all just the little bit of tendentious I picked up in my right hand all went well. (Which makes typing a bitch btw). I actually had less stuff in my old apt closet than I though, however it was bout 3x heavier than I thought lol. :) I actually still have a lot of clothes to go though to see what gets donated, and what I'm keeping.

So, I wanted to know what others experiences are when they moved? Did you experience long distance moves, or have you never moved at all?

I remember back when I was in college, back in 2009. It was around September, and I was being arranged to move to a new dorm room in another part of Pittsburgh. The new apartment was actually for the art institute right around the corner from the building I was staying in, and it was right really close to Station Square, where the school I was going to was at.

The move didn't take very long, just a few hours, but I almost couldn't bring myself to leave my old apartment for some reason... I guess I had just gotten used to being there, what with having lived there for roughly a year.

I've moved once. I was pretty much ready to move all "non-essential" stuff way in advance.. Although, not everyone in my family had that mindset.. and started packing just three days in advance.

Given my current occupation, moving is an inevitability...and I will very much dread the day. We have entirely too much crap in this house.

In college (I always lived in the dorms) I was constantly aware of the time-limited nature of my living arrangement and so tried to live in such a way that packing up would be easy...

I have to move out of my parents house this fall, though, and that is really seemingly like a daunting task. >_>

I lived in a dorm last semester, and I lived on the third floor. My roommate was a pot smoker who fucked up the room constantly and left shit all over the place, so I got fed up and moved out, to the only open single-person room, which was on the fourth floor. It took an hour to move all my shit. And the rooms are tiny, I don't have a lot of shit!

I recently moved it all back out and my good god moving all that stuff down four flights of stairs was unbelievable. Moving day always sucks.

Indeed. Just make sure you have a good plan setup in advance. If you are moving far away your going to want to make it in one or two trips. Make sure you catalog everything ahead of time. If it's closer, smaller trips can be made, and usually you have to worry less about missing something. :)

@Ryudo: This the house are at owned/rented by you, or is part of the AF base?

As I mentioned in in another thread, most of my school days 4th-11th were spent constantly moving each year and at one point I freaking moved twice in the same darn year. To say the least, I became a moving expert and knew how to pack things by the end of High School, haha.

And I still will eventually move out of where I am to get a nice place to live near where I do now or where most of the family lives nowadays. That is unless something more drastic happens and I need to live near a big city or something. I prefer to live far away from Neighbors.

I live in a downtown area. My mother is in a suburban, but still quite busy area. The building my apartment is in is very difficult to figure out that there are apartments in. At this point my neighbors are very quiet and are good. There was one time we had some who were just awful. The land lord had to evict them.

I like living in an urban setting.

I'm in an urban setting too, about a mile from downtown Seattle. My parents live in a tiny redneck village in rural Michigan.

My dad was in the US Air Force, so we moved a lot when I was young, then when I was 9 years old they settled down in Redneckistan.

Redneckistan.
Please tell me I'm not the only one that found that hilariously ironic.

Funny how I'm probably one of the only people that live in my area that haven't moved once in life. However just recently my mother (which is where I'm staying right now, actually, for a month) wanted me to try moving out here with her, so I'm still thinking on it. It's a rather beautiful place, but it's still a fucking long ways away.

I've never moved schools either that would also be a big rush for me, however I really wouldn't mind that at all, I'd just be really lost the first week or so. :P

Regarding that question. No, I've never moved but if I do the first time would be long distance. :3
