It started about an hour ago when I was experiencing a keyboard malfunction. The E key was inserting 3s, the T with 7s, O (the letter) with 9s, some keys were doing incorrect funtions, and the Y key was acting as if it was being held down, then some keys, like E, stopped working entirely.
Thinking that maybe it was a driver error, I disabled the keyboard in the device manager, and restarted per the prompt. What happened next was that instead of booting straight into Windows, as per normal, it propted me for which OS to load... With my Windows 7 being my only option... It loaded alright, I guess, but I couldn't log in because my keyboard was disabled, and I couldn't bring up the onscreen keyboard, either... I shut down and tried to reboot again, only this time... And every time now... All I get is a black screen and the PC speaker screaming a long, broken blare. It does this no matter if I tell it to boot from the hard drive or my recovery disk... What is wrong? What happened? I'm kinda fucked without my computer! Please help! |

That's.. certainly strange behaviour. Although, it does remind me of my old laptop.
It'd turn on, and start the fan.. nothing else. It turned out that the motherboard had actually melted. You haven't been trying to use it in a hot place.. have you? The world could always use more heroes! |

Not any hotter than room temperature. I have a box fan that sits behind it, blowing on it as well as me to keep us both cool... I hope that the motherboard didn't melt... I can't afford to replace it, and I won't for quite some time! |

Open the computer and look at the motherboard. You'll see if it melted.
Since you'll need to open the computer anyway, it's on the way. |

I see. My dad had the same problem with his laptop, and he figured out that it was because the previous owner split beer on the whole left side of the keyboard which caused it to short circuit. However I don't think this is the case for you. Just see if getting a new keyboard will help, if not Try contacting a previous owner, or a technician. |

Must've missed the "laptop" part...
It does sound like something internally is broken though... so there seems no way around it. |

Posted by LilianaIt's in the thread title... ._. I have reason to believe it was caused by the replacement adapter I bought yesterday... But it doesn't quite add up since I only got about thirteen hours of use out of it when the computer was on. I admit I was doing some heavy file manipulation between uTorrent, UMDGen, moving isos onto my PSP and backing them up to my 2TB... Although, that's no different than any other day that I do a lot of stuff. Shit just doesn't make sense. |

2 of my old laptops have done the exact same thing, even BIOS reflashing does not yeild any good results.
People say that often the keyboard's connector cable/ribbon to the mainboard can get loose on most laptops and could cause the keyboard malfunction, as for your HDD, probably died, I had one that did that too, replacing it worked though... --- ANYWAY, back to the initial issue at hand, have you tried an external keyboard? I have on both of mine, but the external keyboard suffers the exact same issue, so it's probably not the internal keyboard's ribbon at fault... |

If it is your motherboard you HD may be fine. If you can't get it to boot save your HD and you can try and pull data off of it using someone's desktop.

The issue with the keyboard sprang up out of nowhere! It worked fine when I was working with the PSP files. Indecided to take a break from the laptop for a while, and hopped on the Wii for a few hours. When I came back, the keyboard was acting up.
As for the hard drive failure hypothesis, I doubt that's the case because I wasn't having any issues with it. I highly doubt that is the issue... I'm gonna see if I can get it to load up by dropping it into one of the other laptops in the house. @Emuz: She's a four year old Toshiba Satellite model. A great computer. Put up with more abuse than I think should have been tolerated. |

Ahh 4 years? Hmm.. well it could be an age issues. Sadly a lot of good laptops last about that long before a soldering point breaks or something silly. It could be a matter of finding that and fixing it.. (could be motherboard those symptoms) The Dynamic Profile Administrator™"Never Knows Best" Note: if you can see this my layout broke. Eh, I've been meaning to upgrade for some time... I'm just not given the choice now.
I'm thinking of getting another Toshiba, because despite the shit they get from people, they make damn good machines. I just hope I can get something within a range of $300-400 that can rival what the old one was. It was $500, and worth every penny. |

Hijacked my dad's laptop and swapped had drives.
Conclusion: The Toshiba's fucked. |

Try and clear the CMOS. See if there's a battery somewhere you can remove. It might not have liked being shut off in that boot screen, and/or might have detected something awry with your keyboard. Try and keep the keyboard disconnected and turn it on after you've cleared the CMOS.
EDIT: There might be a button somewhere you can push or a jumper you can move one pin over to clear the CMOS. Being that it's a laptop, it's not likely there's an easy way to do this other than pulling the battery. |

Was the replacement adapter from Toshiba for that model? I know playing around with a adapter, especially on older rigs can sometimes make a laptop do funny things, and when funny includes funny things with power, not so funny things happen like melting. |

The adapter was made by a company that sells through Radioshack called "Enercell..."
Upon reading reviews after dropping my hard drive into my dad's laptop, I found that the company makes incredibly poor quality devices and gets consistently bad reviews. What pisses me off is that I threw out the receipt, and I'm now out $75! |

I always save my receipts for anything within the return date, especially something like electronics... does Radio Shack at least give store credit for no receipt? "Miracles happen, when you believe..."
