Yeah, since my network card died, this is how I am online currently.

Please, don't try this at home <_<

It's only temporary until I get a working wireless setup - but don't ask me how long it will take...

Oh, but it wouldn't be complete without it now, would it?

That's a first. Usually, people joke about it being a "Fritz box"... <_<

I have a DSL cord going all the way across my living room, because the idiots who built this apartment didn't put any power outlets anywhere near any phone/DSL outlets.

Ah, the joys of living in a 100-year-old building.

I have a 50 foot ethernet cable that I'd prefer to use over this wireless, but I don't have a reasonable means of routing the cable to the router without pissing other roommates off.

After all this time with this NIC, I'm surprised it hasn't died. It has its problems though, but it still works.

I hope your wireless situation gets better. Thankfully a wireless setup doesn't cost so much nowadays.

Luckily, my PC sits about 2 feet from the router and modem. The 50 foot cable is reserved for the PS3 that sits downstairs in the living room and doesn't get the best wireless reception in its location.

I can check in my parts closet and see if I have a spare NIC card for ya, Lil.

On the bright side At least you have a solution. Doesn't have to be pretty, just as long as it works :)

When I moved apartments I made sure the cable company drilled a drop for the connection in the same room as my computer. If not I always had wifi from the bedroom drop. (I just don't like using wifi for my desktops, as it will drop from time to time, and it's not as fast for LAN)

Wireless isn't too bad for me. Right now, the wireless networking speed is more than ten times the internet connection speed.

I've not had any real issues using wireless.. but it comes as an advantage for me too. It saves trying to find a way to ninja a cable from downstairs to upstairs.. and also prevents it being punctured by a curious cat too. >_>

Wireless is good, but I've had only bad luck with wireless adapters. They often fail for me.

I am a PC gamer so wireless feels unacceptable for me. But outside of situations where low latency is a must and packet loss is unacceptable, wireless is fine.

I'm a bit squeamish of wireless after a time in 2005-2006 when my only Internet access was an extremely unstable wireless network.

I use wireless at work on my droid, though. I think the technology is better now.

Indeed. Wireless technology is a lot stronger than it used to be. Changing my wireless networking card gave me a stronger signal on an older router. Prevented a few random disconnections.

And now, with a new ISP-provided router, I tend to have a flawless connection.
