Any other Civ fans here? ^_~ What's your favourite game(s)?

Apparently I'm unusual since I prefer Civilization III. Never could get much into IV and haven't played V.

I would say I prefer III, but it's actually the only one I've played... >_>

Civ V and Civ Rev for me. Not a huge fan of Civ but Civ Rev drew me in and I played a little bit of IV and some of V.

Never actually played Rev, how does it fit in to the series anyway?

Civ IV is pretty cool, especially with the "Caveman2Cosmos" mod (which itself is a mod/expansion of "A New Dawn" which happens to be a mod/expansion of "Rise of Mankind"... so yeah it has an infinite amount of gameplay :P). If only multiplayer wasn't so buggy...

Civ V looks to be getting good, but still mods aren't available in multiplayer >:[.

I have played III, and own IV and V. I haven't really played them as extensively as other PC games, but I did enjoy them. Really got a kick out of the death machine you can build in V. LOL

I've played a little bit of II and IV but I've not really played anything as extensively as III. We used to play it at work back when I was a student assistant over in IT. I was most use to the Empire Earth/RTS style so I wasn't that good at it. We only played about 4 times, so I never became an expert at it. I enjoyed it none the same.

I.

Love.

Civ.

Next to TF2, it's probably the game that has stolen most of my life away (Starcraft and Diablo 2 might be close thirds and fourths). Specifically Civ IV, which is my favorite, but I've played all of them, except for Revolutions. Revolutions is based off of Colonization, right? So I've TECHNICALLY played that, too.

But fo realz, Civ IV is my favorite. It's just the best balanced and most fun to me, and the wide variety of mods keeps the fun going for a looooong ass time. I can't tell you how long I've spent playing the Fall From Heaven II fantasy mod. A long fucking time.

After IV, my favorites go as follows: II, then V, then III, then I. II was the first one I ever played, and I remember when I first discovered it I was like "This looks kinda cool" and I spent so much time playing that game I could not go to sleep, my mind was too stimulated and awake. I would close my eyes and all I could think of was that game. I still play II occasionally over IV, it's nice to go back to the past.

Man, we should all play some online games of Civ in here sometime :D

Freeciv (ok it's not a offical game but it counts) and Civilization IV. Civilization V was improved by gods and kings but still suffers from a lot of problems that is turning off a lot of longtime fans, such as how the game solves overly fast expansion (Civ IV had a good enough solution on this, the V solution just feels broken). Oh yeah, Civ V not having mods in multiplayer was actually a negative factor for a lot of people as well.

People seem to be wanting a economy like Civ IV but combat like Civ V for the next game.

Freeciv is basically just Civilization II rebalanced for multiplayer and is both free and gratis.

So what difficulties do people play on? I dabble on Emporer (Difficulty 6 out of 8) on Civ V and Monarch on Civiliation IV (6 out of 9). Civ IV is generally the harder game though, as the Civ V AI is completely incapable of using the one unit per tile limitation effectively.

III is my favorite Civ game, but the first one I ever played was the original on my old Mac back in the mid-90s :D I played a bit of IV and II but not V yet...

Yeah I also play Freeciv on occasion, but it seems more... broken. Like, with the AI that is. I dunno, they seem to cheat more and it puts me off from the game.

Also I suck at the games despite how much I play them, so I usually play, like, difficulty 3 out of 8 or so.

I tried Freeciv and didn't really like the interface. Often when the game tells you something, it just quietly opens a tab at the bottom that's easy to miss.

And my first Civ was also the original ^_^

Freeciv mostly shines in it's multiplayer. You get around it's UI quirks after playing it for a bit.

The AI in Freeciv is just better than in the commercial civ games which is why it's so hard. They don't cheat at all though. >_>

Yeah, I'm not into playing multiplayer. For one, I'm not good enough. For two, I tend to be into older games, not the current ones. For three, I'd rather play a game at my leisure and be able to pause and quit when I want.

I could never get Freeciv to work with multiplayer when I was younger so I was like "FUCK IT GOING BACK TO THE OTHERS". Civ 4 has an online lobby, and I use that often. Hell I played with a friend last night, actually. I chose random everything, noble difficulty. Not doing so great as the Ethiopians, but my friend Jenisha is doing far worse :P. She was like "There's gold near Matt's area, let me go build a city near it to steal it". This worked until I got Stonehenge. Ethiopians are apparently all about culture, and I quickly swarmed over Los Angeles and culturally stole it. She was kinda pissed at that, and to be honest, it was a complete accident. I was content to let her have the gold.
