When there is no new messages, the private message icon should be a colour that you wouldn't draw attention to. I don't know what it shows if there is new private messages, but I've clicked on the icon a few times thinking there'd be something there. 
Also, the hover text should also state if there is no new messages or new messages. |

While you're at it, remove the border and make it show how many new messages you have (if it does not already </forever alone> ).

Also, why does it need to be an icon? It's being kinda inconsistent with the rest of the links, and kinda breaking one of Acmlmboard's traditions to not be bloated with tons of useless icons, unlike other board softwares... well, one icon is fine, but no more. I'd rather it be transparent. That way it blends perfectly into the layout. The outline could be white or something instead. Then when you've got a message it cna actually be filled up! ____________________  |

Yeah but Neritic Net does have good features and bad features. The sidebars are a good feature for they allow more extended post customization, but icons serve no purpose other than trying to look like 'professional' software (yes, the same kind of software whose code is an unreadable mess. In this case, the icon is meant to be an "at a glace" indicator for PMs, that doesn't take up as much space as wording may. This is how I see it anyway. You won't see much of anything else become 'icons'. I feel Menu Links should be words personally.
