I recently broke down and got myself a Black Magic Intensity Pro capture card that records from component and HDMI. I've got my xbox hooked up to it, and it works wonderfully. Here's how I have it set up: Xbox 360 > HDMI Splitter > BMI Pro/TV.

I took a test recording and then transcoded it and uploaded it to youtube.

You do know that the splitter makes the overall signal worse (since it splits it in half) as opposed to using a HDMI-cable, right?

You realize that some cards don't have a passthough and splitting the signal is, therefore, necessary. Right?

Hey, here's a thought, Trapster. Maybe you don't know jack shit about technology.

You know the most amazing thing about a digital data stream? You can duplicate it flawlessly in realtime. KP's splitter is highly likely to do this.

It's a powered splitter. No signal degradation is introduced. I was able to play a rhythm based game (as linked above) with no lag. However, if I were to play on my shitty preview screen on my computer, I'd be boned. Hence the splitter.

I'm still trying to get my hands on an HDTV to start using my PVR. Once I do, I'll be able to make videos in the same quality as the one you posted, KP.

Go to Big Lots. Actually, if you front me the money and shipping, I think I might be able to get you one for pretty cheap. What specs are you looking for? April 19 thru 21 I get a 30% off employee discount on EVERYTHING.

I'm kinda broke right now. I won't have the money until several paychecks down the line (like June-ish). All I'm really looking for is a nice flat-panel that does 720p at the very least, since that's what I can get out of the device.

My local Walmart has a 27" for just shy of $200 after tax. I might pick that one up.

well, I could get you a 720p 22" LED for... lessee... it's normally $129, it's my display, and it's got a semi-small crack in the bezel, so 20% off of that, and then another 30% off of that for my three-day 30% off discount. That brings it to... $77.78 after tax. But I'm sure there'll be different TV's then, too... ones that aren't busted displays.

That's not too bad of a price. How bad is the crack?

Also, since it would take me a while to make sure I have enough money banked, would you be comfortable with keeping a hold of it for a while?

Well, how long are we talking? I doubt anyone's going to buy it at its current price given the state it's in... It's not as bad as I make it sound, but people where I live are picky as shit. There's a inch and a half to two inch crack on the bottom right of the bezel; there's no noticable damage to the screen itself. It's a crack, but it's not cracked /open/ or exposing the insides at all.

KP, I sent a PM.

Getting back on topic:

Here's one of the first non-test videos done with my Hauppauge.

It was recorded using my Wii's composite cable and a splitter since it lacks passthrough for composite. I think it turned out fairly alright.

Just as a note: The high pitched whine is not my fault. Jay's commentary is recorded at a poor bitrate.

Ok, then.

Yup, I'm doing this now... I know everyone and their grandma is doing videos of Binding of Isaac, but I couldn't resist taking this on.
