Last view: 4406 days 		44 years ago today (July 20, 1969), marks the date that humans first landed on the moon. It actually wasn't until the following day, that Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin left Apollo 11 and set foot on the moon.

What do you think of our space exploration since then? Could we have done more, given the technological advances?

As a kid I always thought space was the future, that we'd colonize planets and such. Then the Cold War ended and governments stopped caring.

Space travel has a certain coolness factor to this science fiction fan, but I don't know that it's that practical right now. We're still far away from economically being able to terraform the moon or Mars, or to mine planets and asteroids. I think we should fix the problems on Earth first.

IMO the first thing we need is mastering a technology that would enable us to travel through space fastly enough for it to be practical. For now it takes a few months to get on the Moon, and even more to get on Mars... let alone going anywhere outside of the Milky Way.

All these reports about how warp drive might actually be feasible without breaking the laws of physics and I haven't really heard much about actually turning out any kind of facts or even any kind of R&D on it. We're starting to get other 'Star Trek' tech worked out, but I'd like to see some kind of FTL travel, or even sublight speeds to send out a probe to the Gliese system or something. Might even pave the way for regular manned excursions to Mars and perhaps find a Prothean data cache there. :P

People always talk about how the lack of space travel is making us stagnant and not dream. I dunno though. Like, don't get me wrong, my favorite science EVER is Astronomy, I'm just saying, there's not... much out in space right now to make us want to go there. It IS kind of a waste of resources. It pains me to say that, but there's not much that can be gained from space travel to the local locations. Except for, say, tourism.
