I've been looking at various 1.5TB hard drives (from Toshiba, and Western Digital)... not sure which one I should go with though (I've had good experiences with both Seagate and WD before, I have a 500GB Seagate and a 320GB WD, the latter of which I use for the Wii now)

This is mainly for backing up my system (not everyday usage), I don't necessarily need a hard drive with an external AC adapter though

Toshiba has been selling their 1.5TB and 1TB externals for around $100 lately. We've not had any issues with any of them thus far. My wife has probably 10 of them (no exaggeration...I think she's collecting them).

Get a 2TB WD MyBook Essential or whatever the name was. Dunno what the pricing is over there but they're fairly cheap over here.

I picked up a Toshiba 1TB external for $65 at Walmart a few weeks ago.

I was pissed when I popped it open to see that it didn't have a SATA to USB interface board in it.

I got a Seagate external drive recently for backups.

When I was at the store though, I saw "Backup" and "Expansion" drives. Both the same size, but the Backup cost like $10 more. So I bought the Expansion and used it for backups anyway ^_~

Makes me wonder what the difference is. Does the Backup come with some obnoxious autoplaying software designed for 75-year-old grandmas who don't know what a shift key is, like some flash drives do? <_< >_>

I have a Verbatim 1TB Hard Drive that hosts all the important stuff (namely backups from the old (and dead) 2004 PC, important documents, the 300GB+ VM folder, along the 60GB+ Vxheavens Virus Collection and the 40GB+ MAME),

Typically when I buy a new computer some stuff from that HD does get copied over.
