i did my 2011 taxes yesterday last night, and it my federal return is waaaaay less (like hundreds of dollars less) than it was last year. for my 2010 taxes, i paid h+r block over $400 for 2 painful hours of their incompetent accountant muddling through their software, and this year i'm gonna end up paying 30 bucks to file federal and state through turbotax online (unless i change my mind and use something something else to do my taxes).
i know last year i got that 400 dollar "making work pay" credit, which isn't a thing this year, but other than that, i'm not sure how i got so much more back last year than i'm getting this year… anyone have any tricks/stories? do you use an accountant or do it yourself? |

I usually do the TurboTax thing. I usually get about ~$800 for my return. |

Nowadays in the Netherlands you get Jack Schitt.
Last year I got just € 80, while the year before I got about € 1800. ____________________ I don't give a flying feather |

Since my wife frequently travels all over the country and has to file for each state she's worked in for those periods, our taxes are a major pain, so we usually go to H&R Block to file.
I haven't gotten deployed in the last couple of years, so the returns have been a bit less than when I'm in a tax-free zone for half the year. ;-) Usually get around $6000 back on non-deployment years. ____________________ Sonnanja, ore no inochi wa toreneena! I haven't got my W2 yet. We have a family friend who just happens to be an accountant and she give us a good rate to do mine, my mother's and my bro's. Mine are pretty straight forward. It took me about an hour and a half to file them. I got about ~$1250 back from federal and state taxes. I filed with Arizona and Utah this year, and didn't owe on either of them. ![]() |

I'm still waiting for my W2 forms. I have a feeling I won't be getting much of anything back for my taxes, anyway.
Since I haven't worked a full year, I haven't actually paid much in. I guess it makes sense that I won't be getting anything. From what I remember about my 2010 taxes, between my federal and local returne, I only got $500. |

Well, just did my taxes.
I'm getting everything I paid in back, with the exception of my local tax. After paying $85 to get them done, I'm going to be getting ~$900. Much better than expected. |

♥677 ✿5155 ★14 I did my taxes about a month or so ago... I got the federal return pretty quick (using the e-file), but I didn't e-file the state (since they charge for it) and so I haven't gotten that return yet... |

I don't have to worry about filing taxes. It's mostly handled by employers here, unless you're self-employed.
Only was once paid back taxes, but that's before my tax code was determined.. ![]() The world could always use more heroes! |
