I'm moderately surprised a thread like this does not exist.

Anyone seen any good movies recently? I went to go see two in the past month: Lincoln and the Hobbit. First off, Lincoln:

It was surprisingly good. It wasn't AMAZING mind you, I wasn't blown away, and it had its problems. Lincoln suffered from what I like to call "Alfred-Syndrome", which means he rambled out random stories and speeches like he had them written up in his head a year ago in preparation for JUST this moment. It's a nitpick, but that aaaalways bugged me. Nonetheless, good movie, I'd recommend it, but maybe that's just cause I'm a history buff.

And then, the Hobbit, which I saw today. Just as good as I expected, really. I think everything they added was fleshed in quite well, and only one casting choice still kinda bugs me: Thorin really doesn't look, or act, or sound, much like a typical Tolkein Dwarf to me. They're always portrayed as more comical, big noses, long beards. It seems they went with the Aragorn approach this time and made him attractive and stuff. Seriously, the dude's old. So was Aragorn. He wasn't much of a looker in the books. So was Aragorn. But again, a bit of a nitpick, and in all he acted well.

The other thing that bugged me was that Gandalf was wheezing a lot. Did he always do that?

How about you guys? :D Seen any good movies lately?

Saw The Hobbit at midnight. It was a fun movie, I enjoyed it. Seems that it keeps getting bad reviews however.

Fuck the reviewers. Critics are idiots, you should never ever decide whether a movie is good or bad based on the critics. In the end it's really all down to taste.

The first review I saw on Rotten Tomatoes for the Hobbit was this: "My first thought in watching The Hobbit was: Do we really need this movie? It was my last thought, too."

Well obviously this movie wasn't fucking made for you, then. Why watch it? Why BOTHER? You're not going to enjoy it with THAT kind of attitude. I had the same problem with Spiderman, actually. So many people were ruined to that movie cause they thought it "didn't need to me made". Just enjoy the god damn movie.

Sorry. I just hate critics.

EDIT: ....On further review of my own post, I fear I may have devolved into Fanboy mode. Hmmm.

We also went and saw The Hobbit yesterday, and enjoyed it. Funny that even though it's been about 25 years since I read the book, I was still able to accurately guage where the movie left off. :)

And yeah, I generally don't care about what critics/reviewers say about movies. They're not me and they don't have a clue as to what I personally like.

The last movie I saw would have been Skyfall.

While I've always been a fan of the James Bond movies, this one is certainly special. It's more like one of the classics than some of the other modern ones. Also great to see they returned to lining the movie with humour in various places.

The world could always use more heroes!

I recently saw Star Trek Into Darkness- I thought it was a pretty good movie; apparently the plot bothers hardcore continuity Trekkies but I found it enjoyable enough :P

I went and saw Star Trek a couple of weeks ago. I was very pleased with it, just as I was the first one. Certain parts and aspects of it really capture that "oh, shit." feel, and I really enjoyed it because of that.

Saw Man of Steel last week. It was alright. One of the better Superman movies that's for sure.

I watched Star Trek: Into Darkness again, since it just came out on disc. Amazing movie. I'm glad I saw it in theaters, but satisfaction of watching it again in the comfort of your own home is really relaxing.

I also saw "This Is The End"... and I really wasn't pleased with it. There are a few parts that made me laugh my tits off though, but I wouldn't recommend it. I guess I came into it expecting it to be sort of like Pineapple Express. Alas, it most definitely was not.

I can safely say that I might have some hipster cred, as I recently watched Black Swan (a Darren Aronofsky film) and enjoyed it ;) Most people only know of it for the controversial lesbian sex scene, but it's probably one of the best movies I've watched in the past 5 years or so...

Wait, I'm confused. I am only familiar with.... shit, I was thinking of the Princess Swan by Disney. Needless to say there isn't a lesbian sex scene in there...

I want to go see Gravity. I keep hearing a ton of good things about that movie; I've got a movie ticket good for any showing. I'm debating on whether to use it on that or Bad Grandpa.

I saw Monsters University recently. For a kids movie the message in that movie was really off. It basically just said you don't need to go to college to be successful lol.

Also there were like 4 instances of it stringing the plot on longer than it needed to be. Just end it at the good part.

Lilo & Stitch.

Not sure why it took me so long to finally watch it but I'm glad that I did.

I haven't watched a movie in quite some time. I do believe ~1 month ago I watched Flushed Away. It's a pretty cool movie. Those slugs with all the sound effects just kill me.

Tomorrow night, as part of my typical Thursday night movie tradition, I'm going to watch The Hunger Games (for the first time, been meaning to get around to it) :D Can't wait for Catching Fire and the new Disney/Pixar movie Frozen (might have to see both on the same day even)

lol blank cell
So far this week I've watched The Wicker Man (1973) and The World's End. The Wicker Man was brilliant and might be one of my new favorite horror films alongside The Shining and Halloween. The World's End was quite good aside from it's weak ending.

Last month I got to see Gravity in theaters. My only complaint about the film was that I didn't get to see it in 3D. :\
