I was thinking your post didn't make much sense, but was unsure how to respond.

Of course you could build such a house in America as well, but with no plugs fitting, what would be the point?

A lot of electronics today are built to run with a wide variety of inputs, to make international sales cheaper... that is to say, as usual business conspires to ruin your fun :P
