Gosh, do I remember the old, prosperous days of the Internet, when the Dotcom bubble was still going strong and websites like Google or YouTube didn't exist yet.
Remember things like websafe colors? Yeah, that was a very important topic back then. Also, websites actually had content instead of fancy graphics like today, since JavaScript was slow and graphics weren't yet widespread thanks to lack of fast Internet speeds and PNG. Also, forums before the advent of spambots. I so miss them. |

I remember surfing the Internet on a Pentium of 90 MHz on superfast ISDN2 with Internet Explorer 4.0, which I got with Office 97.

Ah yes, and the most entertaining sites were filled with .gif images rather than flash content.
The earliest search engine I can recall from memory was Yahoo!.. oh, and Ask Jeeves. The world could always use more heroes! |

Remember all those "under construction" pages? I do! They were amusing with their little GIFs.
@Kiyoshi: woah, Active Desktop! Haven't seen that in a while. Fun fact, it, as well as the channel band, still exists in Windows XP, just nobody really uses it anymore. ![]() |

My XP background used to be Google at school, and it actually worked too ![]() Active Desktop is enabled by default in XP, and much less crash-prone then in 98 or ME, although I have still seen it crash. Vista and 7 have a totally different explorer altogether. ____________________ I don't give a flying feather |

I don't remember how the internet was pre-2000. Though, I remember some parts of my childhood:
* that good ol' simple Google search form * trying to make websites with Word 2000. I still have some. God they look awful. * also trying to make sites with Javascript. Terrible code. And dates back to the times where non-trivial JS had to be coded differently for each and every browser. Glad that some standards kinda ended that madness now. * kids at elementary school were playing with Gameboy type consoles. Pokémon and such. * at some point I got some old laptop. Windows 2000, 6GB HDD, non-3D video card, but I was happy. The first computer I got, that wasn't the family computer in the living room (turn off that computer kids, we wanna listen to today's dramatic news). I fondly remember using some old Visual Studio to do HTML coding, after realizing that Word2000 was inappropriate. <font>, bgcolor, vlink, alink, etc... good times, good times. I still have the JS coding booklets I'd use back then. document.layers, document.all, etc... my JS code from those times looks like AB1.92's code ![]() Also Posted by Liliana One of the base concepts Acmlmboard has been following since its creation. ![]() ____________________ Kuribo64 - melonDS want some revolution in your coffee? |

I remember making websites with Frontpage.
... I don't want to be reminded of that. ![]() |

Isn't that a little contradictory or sumth'?
I remember using Frontpage for one reason only: to design framesets, because the syntax evaded me. Of course, framesets are deprecated nowadays and I have all my docs in a central location, so that's that. |

♥95 ✿4838 ★30 Frontpage is probably better than AOLPress, which I remember using at one point. ![]() That also had a convenient setup for framesets, though I can't really say much else in its favor. (Not even PNG support!) |

I remember learning html by using source code provided by "Dreamweaver" years ago.
I relied on it for ages, until I absorbed all the vintage program could provide. ![]() The world could always use more heroes! |

I used DreamWeaver too, until I discovered text editors with syntax highlighting.
At least DreamWeaver does not insert a lot of crap like Word and FrontPage do. ____________________ I don't give a flying feather |

Posted by Green-KirbyPosted by Gywall .gif images are better than amateur flash abuse. Ever gone to a site where flash starts playing music and lagging your computer to shit? Granted, the .gif images can still be entertaining today. ![]() The world could always use more heroes! |
