Somebody needs to test this under NT 3.51 with IE3. Getting that OS to work would be a major accomplishment.

How is that difficult? And NT 3.51 can run Firefox 2 IIRC.

I meant it's hard to install NT 3.51 under either VMware or VPC.

I could only get it to work with an external vhd file. >_>

Hmm? It's no problem over here. In fact, I have a multiboot system with several versions of NT to play with.

Which OS are you currently using for the host machine?

I'm running Windows XP on the host. I dunno how much that makes a difference, if at all. If using VPC, though, you should set the process affinity to a single core only - NT tends to be touchy about this as a guest.

That makes a difference.

I remember I didn't have problems with my older WinXP computer with 512 MB of RAM. Even an external VHD file worked flawlessly in VPC.

The same VHD file BSODs on me with the same VPC but my Win7 PC.

Thinking of odd browsers.. the browser on my phone displays the board totally broken if it's set to "scale to fit"

The only thing that annoys me about VPC is the fact that networking just loves to break and basically not work at all. I love that so much.

I remember posting on Jul from various OSes and emulators (such as Basilisk II, WinUAE, some Atari ST emulator, etc.) and from NT 3.51 and WFW 3.11 ;)

I wonder what the most exotic post someone could achieve would be..

Maybe using remote access software on a phone to access a PC running a VM running Windows 3.1 running some barely-remembered web browser?

I wonder how that would work. There is a remote desktop server for Windows 3.1, but I have no idea how to control that from a phone. :P

I was thinking Phone -> Machine running a VM that has Windows 3.1 as an OS, and some oddball browser for the internet.

Well, I can't run Windows 3.1 as I don't have a copy. The earliest Windows I have a copy of is XP.

Oh, I have a crapton of web browsers saved: old Mosaics, some Netscapes, just about every Firefox pre-version 4, some IE versions, a couple Operas, and some obscure browsers too :D

Oh, I remember Firefox 1.5 myself. That's the first version of Firefox I used.

That's where I abandoned that security-hole filled abomination called IE6. I will never forget that infection that I got while using IE6 that led to my drivers.cab becoming corrupted.

I used Mozilla since the first time it could compile. The day Netscape released the code was fun.. but on my 75mhz machine with 128MB ram.. it took all night and failed to compile. (Linux) However once the suite got more stable and bins were provided I've been with Mozilla and than Firefox after it got released.

I remember the first time I've used a browser, IE6, in 2009! it crashed instantly on first run.

A second later I got Mozilla Firefox.

I've used Firefox so long now, I find it hard to use different browsers. I sometimes use IE when a cookie-dependant site calls for a single visit. But I have that setup in a "delete all history" style. I must say though, IE's not as bad as it used to be now.

Also, I love how Chrome feels slowest of all browsers.. yet gets hailed as the fastest. >_>
