Of course, what's worse than laptop keyboards are the "virtual" mobile "keyboards". *not shot*

Seriously, it's those that should really improve. But it's hard to do so, apparently...

Virtual keyboards aren't that bad. In fact, I really like them. The hardest factor I think is feedback though, without any form of "key accepted", it's easier to make mistakes if you ask me.

I typo a lot more once my phone goes into "quiet hours" mode. >_>

Nah, I was talking about certain smartphone models' virtual keyboards in particular. On that model that pairs up with horrible touch controls. In other words, that's my phone.

You are aware, that if you dislike the default virtual keyboard, you can download a new keyboard app that's more in tune with your tastes? Right? >_>

My phone's new default is decent. Took a tiny bit of getting used to.
I hear Swype is decent too, not used it much myself. I failed to see the differences between it any the default Samsung one prior to installing the CyanogenMod on my phone.

Actually, flatness has nothing to do with it. I, for one, actually enjoy typing on flat keys a lot more than large chunky keys.

Meh, the problems arise when I realize I have no way to browse the internet without paying an insane amount of money.

But it's the horrible touch screen what really kills the experience, and using a pen doesn't fare much better.

Well, if I'm lucky enough I could use the wi-fi connection at the college.

But still, there's a big danger of connection problems, since browsing the internet with a smartphone is just plain horrible.
