"Open until 10pm" means "everyone come in at 9:45pm"

Or when they come in 5 minutes before closing. Makes me mad. Never go into a place when they close in 5 minutes unless it is an emergency!

Back when I worked at GameStop, we would have people coming in right before closing with a large amount of trade-ins.

Same thing happens at my job (college tutoring lab). We close at 6:00, people come in at like 5:53 looking for help. Sorry, we're trying to shut the place down, we won't be able to help you much in 7 minutes.

I can't see why a supermarket needs to be open 24 hours. The one I work in can't open 24 hours. Stock is received overnight, and thus the store is hard to navigate being filled with pallets of stock waiting to be put on the shelves.

I've seen 24-hour supermarkets. Never went to one late at night, so I don't know how the stocking interferes.

German opening times back in my day were so reasonable:

Mo-Fr 8 AM - 8 PM
Sa 8 AM - 4 PM

No (late) night shopping, nothing. But of course, with fewer and fewer people having a regular nine-to-five job, they couldn't keep it like this. Now it's up to the states to decide, and some were actually good enough to keep it like this, while others have pretty much allowed opening anytime (well, not Sundays...).
