(why isn't the news tag available for this forum? :P)

Wow... I thought they'd never be uncovered :P

I wonder if the cartridges still work? I wouldn't be surprised, as nothing can really kill those old Atari game consoles and cartridges ;) James Rolfe (the Angry Video Nerd) is coming out with a movie based on the story of ET for the Atari, and I can't wait to watch it too :P (always was a fan of the AVGN, heh)

This is too funny!

Give it some years, those E.T. cartridges will cost money years later but that's my opinion... ^_^

Cool~

I always did think it was real. Now we have proof. Didn't know Centipede was in there though. Thought it was ET and Pac-Man (and have heard rumors of Tengen Tetris going there much later).

Is anyone else reminded of that god-awful Irate Gamer video where he digs ET carts from a "desert" covered in grass and surrounded by trees?

I always assumed it was a urban legend with a hint of truth. Just a little exaggerated.

Guess it wasn't a exaggeration. Welp. Interestingly, due to where they are buried the carts are supposedly well preserved. Not much in terms of humidity messing them up etc.

I've never heard of this, but It's cool to know where Atari's went. I always thought they were worth money since they were one of the first video gaming inventions ever. I guess all the copies they made deducts price still today...especially since they are trashed. o_O

I always thought it was real. I heard about the ET being thrown away en masse.

Isn't it? I think it's good to know where all the old stuff is going. Now we know, they will go into landfills unless kept as collectibles. Silly, all the money wasted.

It'd be interesting when archaeologists uncover more Atari cartridges thousands of years from now. I wonder what will they document on that?

Will they know what they were used for? ^_~ I can see them positing all kinds of ideas, like they were a type of glove, or used in a religious rite...

They also had controllers down there. Imagine getting a mint (abet dirty) Atari controller? Very cool!

I had in box ET back in the day (1990). I however being a kid wanted to try to play it. The cart was dead. Oh well it was more fun taking the cartridge apart than it would have been to play the game. ;)

We had ET among our Atari cart collection. I never got very far in it, just kept falling into pits, trying to get out, then falling right back in.
