Who here ISN'T a fan of TVtropes? It sucks you in and ruins your life. Literally, just looking for the "ruins your life" trope I was sucked into TWO OTHERS. It DOES THAT.

But for those who manage to escape for long enough to post a post, let's talk about tropes that fit us, or others, or the board in general. I've already claimed that I'm the only sane man on these forums. How about you? Or others, I guess. I'll post more when I think of em I suppose.

Well, according to Marzen, I am a Trelior... Whatever that means... >_>

I suppose if you look into things a bit, you'll find that your garden variety Trelior is a rather friendly basement dweller that's a bit of a lovable wimp despite his seemingly confident attitude.

Geez, never expected to write a trope stub about myself.

So, is this supposed to be Trope-a-Dope II?

I would attempt this thread, but I'm an at-risk TVTropes survivor.

I might get lost. Very fucking lost. In all of the tropes.

*raises her hand*

I have a problem with the community and forums, since Fast Eddie is a horrible admin, they yell at anyone who ever criticizes troper works, and the fact that "don't be a dick" somehow morphed into a rule against talking badly about anyone's opinions even if those opinions are thoughts of white supremacy, pedophile apologism, all manner of other bigotry, and statements about how cool and loving rape is. Also there are no good troper works (that I have seen.), but there are a hell of a lot of extremely creepy ones! Never look at troper works. It's amazing that a site about writing could produce so many bad writers. Even when the focus appeals to organization-minded people I'd never have expected it to be as bad as it was until it was shown to me, haha. It's just mindboggling.

The wiki itself is better, sure, but still involves a lot of pigeonholing and people trying to fit their favorite works into as many tropes as possible, as though somehow being "trope overdosed" makes something better. But most artworks can't be so narrowly defined, and they have a fundamental lack of understanding of anything remotely difficult or challenging, as evidenced by their pages for Poetry, Mind Screw, and of course True Art is Incomprehensible. Works pages can be even worse than trope pages, too, full of the aforementioned pigeonholing but also people categorizing things in ways that are blatantly not true to anyone who's taken more than a cursory glance at things. But that's all the editors really seem to do, isn't it? Look at the surface of things and say, "Oh, that's THAT trope, I'll put that in the page," without even thinking about the fact that no, Walt from Breaking Bad is not a "Badass." Or calling any work made in the past 80 years Dadaist. I used to go around and fix errors, and edit out instances of conversation in tropes or mentions of "this troper," but at some point it became obvious that it just wasn't worth dealing with.

There's various anti-TVTropes threads I've read over and occasionally posted in on Something Awful that you might want to look over. Or, perhaps not; although TVTropes is basically a cesspool, it's not quite as bad as some goons will portray it. But it still is pretty bad. (If you take nothing else away from this post, you should at least read through the document linked here. It is written by an actual, published poet.)

So, yeah. I don't like TVTropes.

Yes, that is exactly what it is. I.... thought that would be obvious, I just forgot the name.

Huh. Well my "who doesn't love TVTropes" thing was a rhetorical question. There's always someone who doesn't love something others do, and that's perfect fine lol. I understand your reasons. They don't bother me enough to not read through TVTropes when bored, but I understand them, and respect yer opinion.

Now then.... Let us get back on track.
