I think it's all about going to excess with both #hastags and šŸŒ½. I don't mind hash tags used in the right place at the right time.. just not pointlessly, excessively, or (most importantly) IRL. IRL it makes you look like a schmuck. :)

As for šŸ¼(that's an emoji.. no idea if it'll show up for everyone), if it's not overused and the emoji reflect the topic at hand I'm fine with it. Just don't think you should be trying to communicate with a half dozen emoji as they are subjective in their interpretations.

I can't imagine someone saying "hashtag" while saying an IRC's name. I say "pound sign slash number sign Kafuka" for #kafuka. :P

Nowadays I don't pronounce the # in channel names, but years ago I would say "number acmlm" or "number purezc" or whatever.
