Introducing:

That's right, folks, Kafuka will be getting its own Minecraft server! Some of you may have already heard, but I've been working on getting a Minecraft server up for those who want another level of interaction with the community. This is a preliminary period where I'll be taking notes and suggestions for the server, such as what mods to keep (or throw out) or just basic needs and wants.

You know when you hear companies ask you for your opinion and that it's 'very valuable' to them to make the experience or product better? And that it annoys the shit out of you when they ask for it? Well, now I'm on the receiving end here, and now I must ask all of you to raise up your voices. I want to hear what your gripes are, how easy/hard it is for you to set up, what gets in the way, and what helps you out.

I intend this to be a survival co-op server, so I don't want there to be any griefing (making life difficult for other players, destroying their things) or this experience may not go over well for anyone. I'm paying for this out of my pocket, so out of respect to me and everyone else, don't be a troll. Play nice.

To set it up, it's rather easy.
  • Download the Tekkit launcher for your operating system
  • Run the launcher, and login with your Minecraft login credentials
  • On the left side of the launcher, select "Hexxit" and then hit "Play"- the launcher will install and launch your game
  • Once in-game, click on "Multiplayer", then "Add Server"
  • Put what you want the name of this server to be in the "Server Name" box (I called mine Kafuka)
  • In the "Server Address" box, put in "kafuka.mcnode.net" (without quotes) and then click "Done". This will likely change in the future, keep an eye on this thread!
  • Double click on the Kafuka server you just added, or just highlight it and click "Join Server"! You're connected to Coldhallow!

Again, if there are any issues, questions, suggestions, or opinions, post them here. This thread will be the one to keep checking back for the time being. I intend to open up a new forum for this once things get smoothed out a bit.

Coldhallow is LIVE! Have fun!

Emuz gave me the idea to post a few screenshots on here of my server as it stands so far. I'll do that when I get home. In the meantime, I don't know of anyone on Kafuka who's actually been on Coldhallow for one reason or another. Is the biggest reason the fact that you need a Minecraft account to join? Are there any gripes with the server? It's been up for a good few weeks now, and I'm finally starting to get a hang of how this all works; it's been a blast so far!

Top to bottom: The place I've built, the walkway underneath, the place another player built. And this is only the tip of the iceberg so far. There are so many generated structures that provide for some amazing exploration, loot, and danger!

If you like building, there's a ton of stuff you can do. Everything vanilla is still there and functions like it does normally. The mods that are there don't overwhelm you, yet they're readily available.

I should post a few more screenies of the generated structures you can explore. I haven't even seen them all!

Looks nice! I'll take a look there someday.

How flat is the map, though? Newer Minecraft tends to generate flat boring maps. I usually prefer to build on mountainy maps that make building more challenging. You also get to build nifty stairs and passageways everywhere.

The map isn't really that flat, in my opinion. But I might not have seen what maps you're used to. The map certainly doesn't lack for features, though. I'll have to post a pic of a structure that I built (near where those screenshots were taken) of a large structure on a mountain that I built. I need to spread the word a little more than I have been; the server's not seen a whole lot of action lately. If you decide to hop on and like it, spread the word!

Top to bottom:

1) Couple buildings that myself and another uiser ( snarfblam) made.
2) World-Generated castles! One of them got hit by a meteor!
3) Stable and other buildings that my roommate made among a village. Upper left is my quartz estate building.
4) A small fleet of ships randomly generated by the game! they have a ton of pirate mobs on them and carry a bunch of awesome loot!
5) A sky slime island, which spawn naturally with world generation. The giant wall I'm standing on is also world-generated! I haven't seen the other end of it yet!

I'm in love with the fact that this exists. Plus, maybe this'll remind me to go on the board more often. I tend to forget about this place...

I would play this if it didn't require Tekkit and all of that. Although, it doesn't seem very active anyway.
