I don't particularly like water on it's own because it's so bland, carbonated water is just that but it tastes more of carbon dioxide (which I know is a stupid point, but it's the only way I can think of to describe it.)

Carbon dioxide doesn't have a taste, it's a gas. :P

Carbonated water does taste different, though.

Maybe that is the taste of carbon dioxide ^_~

I don't really know what it is, but I have noticed a more "mineral" taste of carbonated water.

The last time I had sparkling, or carbonated, water.. It was so heavily done.. All I could taste was my mouth going pop pop pop.

You know, in places like the UK, Germany, etc. they call diet soda "light"? Like, "Pepsi Light", "Sprite Light" or "Coca-Cola Light" ;) Must be confusing for American travelers, heh :P

I've been accustomed to diet soda being called "lite" in other countries.

Actually, here it varies. It's Coca-Cola Zero, Diet Coca-Cola. Diet is diet stuff, lower calories. Zero is the zero-sugar variations. You know. Those abominations they suck out the sugar and inject sweeteners in.

When you're thirsty, water tastes nice and sweet.

If you've drank soda, water tastes neutral.

Wouldn't you rather have Light Water, or Diet Water?

Heavy water is actually a thing. Water with deuterium, which is a form of hydrogen with extra neutrons.

Apparently too much of it can kill you.

Sounds strange. Does it naturally occur in trace amounts mixed with normal water?

Yep. Normal amounts found in nature are harmless. But if too high a percentage of your body's water is heavy, apparently it causes problems.

D2O (yes something like 2H2O would probably be more "proper" notation, but that's the one people seem to use) is convenient in certain scientific cases because it has different properties in some cases but still binds in the same way water does- which is probably the same reason it's unhealthy, actually :P

In the UK we still call it diet so we have Diet coke, Diet pepsi and we only use the word soda for Cream Soda. *bows a descends into the shadows once again*
