I always pronounced "robust" as "robe ust" but apparently, it's "row bust". Woo hoo, more strangeness in the English language.

I...don't pronounce "robe ust" any differently from "row bust". At least if I'm reading the spellings correctly.

There's a very slight difference in how the syllable is divided, I think? Or I could be convincing myself of a difference that doesn't exist...

Well, I always pronounced "robust" as unaccented, I think, so it I say it slower, but I think "robust" is actually accented so it is pronounced faster.

I always thought "boolean" was pronounced as "bu leen" but apparently it's pronounced as "bullian".

Just the weirdness of English pronunciation again. :P

I just found out today that I've been pronouncing the name "Levi" wrong for pretty much my whole life.

I always pronounced "Descartes" the way it is spelled but I found out yesterday that it is pronounced "deicar". I thought "deicar' was spelled as "Deycarre" or something but then I learned it is spelled as "Descartes".

Who knew French words could be so complicated? :P

German names, too. I used to think Euler was pronounced "yoo-ler". Correct pronounciation is "oy-lah".

Blame it on the weird pronunciations of English words. It is a Germanic language with a lot of Romantic influence. But, I'm fluent in Spanish anyway. :P

This isn't really something I say wrong, but why do a lot of Americans pronounce minotaur as "minnotarr" instead of "mine-otorr".

I myself say "mine-otarr". Dialects of English, I guess.

I had never heard of pronouncing the first syllable as "mine" before this post. >_>

Surely if it were pronounced with a soft I it would have two n's following it , right? At least that's what I gauge based on every other word with a similar letter pattern

Judging an English word's pronunciation by its spelling is a dangerous game- for example, "minimum" breaks your pattern.

And let's not forget through, though, enough, plough, bough, plow, bow, and bow.
