Does the source to this still exist?
I've been under the impression that ABII was a complete rewrite rather than just an upgraded version of the original and I thought it'd be cool to see the original board script.

The original is still available, there are a few versions available there: http://acmlm.cjb.net:2/.

1.92 is the best of the 1.x series, but the code is still shit. If you really want to use it for a serious board, you'll need to take some time and fix all the exploits first.

This one makes you an admin.

Needless to say, all of the AB1.x boards today have it fixed. It's one of the most popular and easy ones, but there are many more.

If you intend to use AB1.x, go read some stuff about SQL injections (and exploits in general) first.

I don't intend to use this as an actual board, I just wanted to get the images associated with post count and exp gained as shown here:

Is it possible to have this implemented into an update to ABII?

If you have PHP knowledge, you can do whatever you want with Acmlmboard, no matter the version.

Doing that change you mentioned, would be matter of finding the code that generates post sidebars (somewhere in lib/threadpost.php), and modifying it properly. And you might want to get larger images, that text is small on nowadays' resolutions.

I couldn't agree with you more StapleButter. Installing the board on your own server is a great way to see how things work, even if someone isn't proficient in PHP/MySQL and are looking educate themselves with further knowledge.

Acmlmboard 1.x isn't the best thing to educate yourself with, though. The code is unreadable, full of bad coding practices (like relying on register_globals or not sanitizing user input properly-- the thing is full of holes), and made for PHP4.

The database structure is good, however, besides the fact it uses Latin1 instead of UTF8.

I wouldn't suggest it either because of the simple fact it is outdated with security issues and wouldn't be that relevant to the newer build anyways. Looking back throughout the years of the development, it has really come quite a ways to date.

It would be nice to see it restored, though, just for nostalgia. But there's a lot of work.

The Jul version of the code is floating around somewhere too and it's probably a little better patched, but IIRC it's missing some of Xk's security hacks.

The version available is old compared to the current Jul codebase. Also, it lacks Xkeeper's secret firewall (lib/firewall.php) which is responsible for all the security. Without it, the board is almost as vulnerable as original AB1.92.

Not to mention Jul is built for a single site to use. There are a few things you may have to hack that's hard coded. That's minor, of course. The code is still confusing like 1.92.

It would be neat to restore 1.92 to working order. Something I've thought of, but I'm so busy I don't even get the change to work on 2.5 much let alone anything new.

Funny enough. The current develop branch has this now. I'm just waiting to make the branch stable, and to finish adding a few things..
One the focus of the current branch is to bring over and ABI feature that have been requested. (kind of as a way to finish up looking backward ABI so we can work on optimization and new features etc.)

I had a 1.92 board years ago that i and a few friends ended up almost entirely rewriting the code of in fact we ended up calling it 1.92.B or 1.92.A to separate our version a little bit from the others but even then ours was full of bugs but at least the security was semi decent

Security was the hard part too. I know there are few other forks that ended up being very different from the source board.

I know it which is why we focused so much on it. I have seen some of them and it reminds me a lot of the Free Software/open source and GNU/Linux Stuff

Ours externally was very similar to the original 1.92 but internally became very different largely because of the code rewrites and new features we were trying to add

Yeah, There are a few places that ended up doing just that. It was easier in a way. There is one site that changed so much I think you could barely tell it was an Acmlmboard.

It was so much easier when we decided to do that rather than just try to patch it

Also If it wasn't for a hard drive crash (had the code backup ) and a septic tank (drainage pipe froze) back up frying my server which was a really old PC) I/we would have most likely be able to fix & release the code and possibly made certain recent AcmlmBoard projects unnecessary
