Hehe, when I first saw "tl;dr" my mind thought of the Windows 98/2000/XP error of "NTLDR is missing, Press any key to restart" if you broke the MBR or left a floppy in the drive :P

Hah wow. Did that seriously happen when you left a floppy in? I've done that multiple times and it usually just asked nicely to remove the floppy (or get the WinImage stub that booted to the hard drive directly).
