Anyone else remember the Iomega ZIP drive?

I 'member.

It looked like that was going to be the next big storage format. Then I'm guessing flash drives came around and ruined everything.

Before flash drives came along however, it was CD-R(W)s and DVD±R(W)s that were what killed the ZIP :)

True. I guess I was so used to seeing CD-Rs only around me that I never truly thought of them as a "true" storage format. My bad.

I had a shitload of DVDs and CDs full of backup. Stacks upon stacks of 'em. Earlier this year I went through the lot. Found a whole bunch of painful memories, anime, and a variety of items of interest. Things I'd made that I thought lost forever. With these things recovered, I've put the lot in storage.

Point and click adventure game assets and drabbles, my old VB6 fighting game engine (source and binaries) that I can't run on this system (including something MSDN said couldn't be done: DirectInput force feedback in VB6), my GBA adventure game (full source and ROM) which also includes my first go at imitating Pokémon 3rd gen's script engine, a full copy of one of my older websites, the SDL version of the same concept as the GBA game, Larry 4 (yes), and my old BUILD project, with full source.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find the code for the one time I managed to write a passable platform game engine. All that remains is a single early screenshot and a harsher-in-hindsight celebratory blog post. That screenshot doesn't even show the moving platforms I'd gotten in before it was all lost.

Things I never lost in the backup undertow: a touhouclone, an Ace Attorney clone based on Board2 shenanigans, a good attempt at a Final Fantasy 3 RPG engine, and the source and design docs for a 3D game that never got far... though that game did have passable collision detection with the ability to climb both stairs and slopes, even if the "player" was a mere sphere.

That platform game engine still pisses me off. No, "piss off" isn't the right word...

Had to google this one, and I can see why. It sounds like the Sega 32X of storage formats.

Heh, I remember seeing them in the stores but never actually owned one ;) There were other ones, like the SuperDisk (backwards compatible with regular floppies!), the Syquest SparQ, the Castlewood Orb, and probably others ;)

I used to store my stuff on CD-R's. Nowadays I have a backup drive. And I tend to email myself stuff as well.

Definitely Nicki. Never liked Iggy much at all, and at least Super Bass is catchy.

Also, Nicki is waaaaay hotter. Dem Starships bro.

To be honest I miss the early 2000s when Jennifer Lopez and Ashanti ruled the airwaves ;)

Neither? But I have more songs from Minaj than I do from Azalea.
