We got kicked outta the shelter because my brother in NJ was an asshole. So in October of 2016 we stayed at my cousin's house, but only lasted four months because her and her kids are all drug addicts. So we went back to the shelter to reapply only to be kicked out again after two weeks because when they got in contact with my brother again, he said we can move back, knowing that we can't...

My brother takes my mom's $78,000 on a fake ass housing flipping business, when we caught on to his lies he got really shady and practically threw us out, we had no choice but to leave. But his construction business is going strong, and on top of that he always claimed broke but suddenly bought a new truck and my nephew got a new car.

So for now we're staying in The Bronx with family until we can get situated in looking for a place. Being on a fixed income is not easy, I'm on disablility, my brother is on disability and my mom receives widower benefits. This is the first thing I ever done online was to talk about my finances. And suffering from depression and suicidal thoughts don't help either. I hate my brother for fucking my mom over, I wish he was dead instead of my other brother that passed away in 1999...

I hate my brother, his wife, and his kids. I don't wish death on nobody but I wish they were all, dead. And the shit that kills my is that my brother is a so called christian, fuck the god he worships...

I'm sorry to hear all that. It sounds like a real mess, but thank you for sharing anyway.

I've taken a quick look at some of the other posts you've made in this forum, and I have to ask: have ever spoken to a professional about all this? It all seems like a lot to sort out (especially with depression and suicidal thoughts), and it looks like there's some free and low-cost options in your area.

I'm in the process of seeing group sessions soon, but everything needs to be sorted out first, I'm in a program that if you're homeless they help you get back on your feet. I should be getting a call from my case worker soon to let me know what's going on.

I'm just glad that we have a place to stay for the time being and not sleeping in the street, my mom is 72 years old, she shouldn't be going through this. She been through a lot in her life and for my brother to do this to her is not cool.

Of course not. This kind of thing seems difficult for anyone, let alone a 70+ year old.

I'm glad you're on deck to see someone, at least. I know personal counseling was absolutely wonderful for me with stuff like this. I just hope group serves you just as well.

It's not the end of the road yet. Don't give up.

Slowly but surely I'm getting the motivation to ROM hack and draw, I saw my Psychiatrist a few days ago and we spoke for a bit, I felt good after talking to her.

Sure! That's what they're there for, right? :)

Also, I remember you posting about ROM hacking and drawing somewhere else? Hmmm...

We should be getting a place very soon, with NYCHA. Our application is in the process so we can be interviewed for a 3br apartment. I'm still staying with family in The Bronx.

Quick update, my family in The Bronx wants us out by this Friday, we're gonna have to go back to a homeless shelter. Our application for NYCHA was picked and our name was picked in a Lottery for a 2br apartment.

They don't wanna wait, and my cousin's nephew wants his space back, you know who your true family members are when you hit rock bottom...

Good news, on the 29th of this month we'll be staying in this shelter for four months. We're approved for apartment vouchers and our NYCHA application is going along pretty smooth. The application is in it's final stages, so we'll be getting interviewed soon for that 3br apartment! :D

Also, we're saving money in the process for everything, too. Some we couldn't do staying with family...

I'm glad that things are finally looking up for 2018...

Nice! *hugs*

There's one thing I don't get about the NYCHA process, though, namely: how come your application is only now in its final stages if you won an apartment lottery back in September?

We were denied to the apartment we won in the lottery, NYC Housing Connect didn't even gave us the reason why we were denied. NYCHA and NYC Housing Connect are different entities.

The apartment from NYC Housing Connect we lost, our application for NYCHA is still moving. I'm hoping by August we have an apartment.

Update: we filled out over 30 applications, we're on the waiting list for a 2 bedroom apartment. As for as NYCHA, we're picked for a 3 bedroom apartment for Queens NY. We're just waiting to the interview, and we have almost 3 grand saved up. So far it looks like everything is going well, I'm still dealing with my mental health issues, but with the medication I'm managing. :)

Well a couple of weeks ago we got served our papers, we're being transferred to another shelter. The one where I'm in now is shutting down after disgruntled workers and tenants put this place on the news for being a bunch of slumlords, which are a bunch of lies.

This hotel is getting emptier every week, with people going to other places. We saved $4,000 and the case worker says we're apartment ready. This is getting outta hand, I don't know how much more I can deal with this stress.

Well, it's been over a month we been at the new place, and so far our case manager is working hard to get us a three bedroom apartment. He said he's working hard since by September we'll have $5,000 saved up, so he's talking to a broker.

We might either live in The Bronx or upstate NY. I'm okay with it since I'll be starting college in a couple of weeks, at least I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

No place yet, our case manager is the supervisor, and he gave our case to a new case manager. this month we'll have $6,000, we're more than ready for a place. Maybe the caseworkers don't wanna help.

We might have to find a place on our own, this is getting outta hand already.

Whether you want to admit this or not but new york is too costly to live in right now.
Given all the stuff you are going through the past 2 years+ and no stable job to support you.
Have you sat down with your wife and talked about moving out of state that is more affordable ?
