Playing through the original Sly Cooper. I love this game a lot, but I am just terrible at it.

What video game sequel do you want the most?
Eeesh. That's pretty tough, honestly, and I don't know how good of an answer I can give. But I suppose I'll break it down into a list: five games that deserve a sequel, alongside some honorable mentions that deserve at least some recognition, or an expanded remake, or some such. I kind of like making lists, it's really strangely fun.

#5. Ecco the Dolphin. Sure, Ecco was pretty much based on being a complete, unbroken, fuck-you-to-fuck-you continuum, and I don't usually like the form of design it had (Designer Ed Annunziata said he made it hard to stop kids from beating it in one weekend), and would rather play a longer game with a more modest difficulty curve, but Ecco did what it did very, very well. There were a few other games in the series, namely Tides of Time and Defender of the Future, but really, I'm very much hoping for another one. Hell, there was a sequel to Defender that got canned -- maybe it could get picked up again?

#4. StarTropics. Now, I've never played Zoda's Revenge, so I guess I'm not really sure how plausible this is for plot purposes, but come on, this is an overall pretty neat IP. Tropical environments? Dungeons that occasionally have a bit of an Indiana Jones edge to the traps (except with more bowling balls)? Aliens? Sure, it might be a little dated if they just threw us StarTropics HD, but I really feel that this deserved to be a larger-scale franchise, and surely it can have the opportunity now, right? Come on, Nintendo.

#3. Secret of Evermore. I love just about everything about this game, from the freaky-ass commercial, to the atmospheric soundtrack (Jeremy Soule's first work! We'd go on to know him for making the music for at least the more recent Elder Scrolls games.), even the alchemy system is pretty neat (though I suspect it wasn't replicated in many other games because keeping track of mana is enough of a bother, now I have to pay attention to all of these random items?) -- about my only big disappointment with this game is the sheer reliance on boring, expansive mazes in which next to nothing happens. So maybe Square-Enix should stop waxing it to the pink-haired Cloud wannabe that nobody likes and make another Evermore game for the three or four people who are a. still S-E true believers and b. played Secret of Evermore.

#2. ActRaiser. Quintet made both one of the finest god games and platformers of all time with the original ActRaiser, then proceeded to completely torpedo that by taking the god game aspect out of ActRaiser 2 and making the platforming a damn nightmare. Quintet as a company is basically dead now, but some of the folks in that company still work in the gaming industry. To be fair, I feel like I'd be kind of wary of the quality of a potential ActRaiser 3, but it would still be pretty neat if done right.

#1. Banjo-Kazooie. Naturally. We need a legit third Banjo-Kazooie game that's not like Nuts and Bolts and is, well, like an actual Banjo-Kazooie game. I trash 3D platformers a lot, but the first Banjo-Kazooie is, to my estimation, easily the best that's not named Rayman 2. Microsoft/Rare need to hand the IP over to a company that can actually make a good game, like Retro. I mean, I think that Rare needs to not be owned by Microsoft just in general, but one thing at a time.

THE HONORABLE MENTION ZONE:
I definitely want to see an enhanced version of E.V.O.: Search for Eden, which, with the enhanced sizes of storage for games, has massive potential now to be a very customizable game -- as the Super NES title already was! -- that allows players to very easily never play the same game twice without randomized elements.

As much as I love Chrono Trigger and even Chrono Cross and I do want a new Chrono game, I'm... not sure how much trust I can place in it. Cross was neat and all, but it made the plot an absolute morass. There were some loose ends in Trigger, but Cross just took them and made a mess. I like the idea, but this could end horribly.

I want an enhanced remake of Shadowgate and the other ICOM adventure games. This applies to many other adventure games, too, and I think it's a genre that's regaining some steam.

Another game that I think deserves an enhanced remake: Zombies Ate My Neighbors. As long as it keeps the fun, schlocky, B-movie atmosphere of the SNES original. This game is too good to not deserve this kind of an update.

"I can accept that," Adel responded with regard to payment. "Usually I take various odd jobs to earn my keep. Generally, the sorts of offers I get mean I land somewhere between bounty hunter and errand boy. I'll do what's needed of me."

But of all the places to be a base, this seemed like a particularly odd one. Then again, his base of operations was, prior to this point, an apartment in a particularly rainy city. Then again, it was home. And from the looks of things, this place would be for a time, too.

His moment of thought was interrupted by the arrival of another new... arrival. He seemed a bit less rough-cut than Adel probably made himself look.

"Doesn't seem like a big deal, honestly," he responded. "Looks like not a whole lot is going on here. And... I guess not a lot has gone on here in a while. Unless I showed up just in time to miss the bar brawl."

What's up, asshole? :P
Eh, you know. Been playing too much Dota 2 later, because I guess I hate myself or something.

Oh, yeah, fun-ish aside: The "and then there's this asshole" thing is a reference to a repeated meme on the internet which, I think, comes from Penn and Teller: Bullshit!, a show of which I'm fairly fond. (It may trace to something else, though, and I don't doubt that someone has used the phrase prior to Penn Jillette stringing those words together.) I had "This Asshole" as my display name on Steam for a while and still have that as my display name on Skype.

Are you hiding in a hole in the ground?
No. Not that I would tell you if I would. Have fun with that.

Do you enjoy beta elements?
To be honest with you, it depends on the game. Some have some very interesting ones, others... less so. Overall, though? Pretty neat.

Ehhh, not terribly, considering many ISPs.

It's not a sheep, though! This is one that I explained elsewhere on the boards, but here it is again: it's a Saints Row The Third-themed variation on part of this album's cover.

edit: ALTHOUGH I DO REMEMBER that there was a video game released for... I think the PS1? just called "Sheep." I remember it because I saw a magazine ad for it bearing the tagline "Dirty deeds done to sheep." It apparently was similar to Lemmings (a game I really like) and was mediocre.

Adel had spent a lot of time just listening. At this point, gathering information was probably way more useful than anything else.

"Where I'm from," he noted, "the magically-inclined are fairly unusual. They're becoming more common in the wake of... certain events. Then again, I only really was sure of this in my home country. Still interesting."

To be fair, his 'brother' had gotten him in contact with two people from Japan who were both definitely magic users. Maybe things were different outside of America. He hadn't paid enough attention to Germany to have any information on that front.

"Though, I suppose that's not really here nor there."

"No," Adel responds, "I suppose we haven't introduced ourselves, have we." The length of the pause thereafter probably makes it seem like he's just going to leave it at that, but no, that's just meant to be funny. Or misleading in a way which seemed amusing at the time. "I am Adel Volker. Or just Adel; nobody calls anyone by both of their names unless there's confusion to be had otherwise, or if they're an angry parent."

He's already stated what he does -- or did, anyway -- with his life, so he just stops there.
