Posted by Danika I dunno. I guess I'm not a fan of anything overly trial-and-error based. I have no issue with trial-and-error gameplay in itself, it's perfectly valid game design and works well in games like Megaman for example, but I'm not as big a fan of that when it comes to Mario. Ever since they started the whole "the villain is an evil embodiment of the collective unconscious" stuff, P3 was the last one that did it right in my opinion. P3 revealed Nyx two ingame months in advance, the team has a ton of time to mentally prepare themselves and the whole thing feels more built-up, satisfying and cool. Izanami from P4 kinda came outta nowhere and was a far less compelling villain than (spoilertagged because it spoils a major plot twist) Adachi. Yaldabaoth from Persona 5 feels even more shoehorned in. The tone of the game shifts drastically, basically temporarily turning into an SMT game out of nowhere, and Yaldy as a villain wasn't particularly compelling as a villain beyond being a somewhat cool visual design. To his boss fight's credit though, the fact that you get to summon a giant demon lord to literally shoot him in the face at the end was pretty rad, so it kinda makes up for it. ____________________ Giant Paratroopa Affected by 'Wooster Syndrome' ++++!!
