I'm in the process of getting my USB loader to play Gamecube games on my Wii... After dicking with it for nearly three and a half hours, I finally think I'm making a breakthrough. I have it to the point where games will load up, Paper Mario: TYD and Zelda: Wind Waker load and seem to play well enough, albeit a tad slow, but I can live with that.
I almost can get an iso of Luigi's Mansion to play, but it crashes the Wii when I try to advance off of the title screen. I hope it was just a bad conversion from .gcm to .iso because I blind converted by just changing the file extension at the instruction of a guide I found. I'm currently running the .gcm through a proper converter, so hopefully it'll let me play it this time. EDIT: I discovered the copy of Luigi's Mansion I had was a bad dump. I'm in the process of redownloading it to try again. In the meantime, I downloaded Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles to see if it would work, and it appears to play flawlessly. EDIT2: The torrent for Luigi's Mansion just finished, and I tried it again. Still hangs when I press Start. I may have to actually find this game. Who would've thought that making the Wii emulate games it can play normally would be so fucking hard. I have forty five Wii games that all play fairly well from an external hard drive, yet have trouble getting two or three Gamecube games to run from an SD card. |

Seeing as a few personal things really mashed my berserk button today, I decided to dick around a bit in a few games and get a feel for them.
I started up Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles and did some early game stuff, and I really don't know what to think of it yet. It has an interesting feel to it, but I find it hard to get into. Not sure what it is, though. Growing bored quickly of FF:CC, I booted into Arc Rise Fantasia. This is one of those games that really makes me think if I like it or not... There is some seriously fucking weird shit in it. The cutscenes look really nice and all, but the voice acting is fucking terrible. The voices themselves are fine and seem to fit the characters that I've met so far fairly well, but the lack of proper emotion as well as overall flatness just feels really phoned in. As for the characters themselves... They're alright-ish... I can't really pin down which of my three current party members are likable yet. L'arc is a bit of a snarky asshole that I can relate to, Ryfia just seems like a retard, and Alf... I dunno, he just got introduced to him, so I don't have much of an opinion on him yet. According to L'arc's snark, he's a naive and overly nice person. I've only been playing for a little over a half hour, and it's already thrown one hell of a head scratcher of an analogy... As L'arc and Ryfia are leaving the forest, it begins to rain despite the sky being clear, which is odd in and of itself. When Ryfia calls it to attention, L'arc says the most off-the-wall batshit statement I have ever heard, and I quote, "The devil must be beating his wife." I had to fucking pause the game for a few minutes to let the absolute dumbfounding pass. There just are not any words to describe how fucked up that seemed to me. Here is an accurate representation of my ex EDIT: I Googled it... Apparently it's a common religious phrase in England, Germany, and Sweden about bad omens. I still find it weird as fuck, though. |

I did it! I beat the Sheol on Binding of Isaac with Blue Baby! This run was fucking amazing.
I got the Book of Revelations very early on (Basement 2, actually) and knew I could ultimately use it to my full advantage, as well as keep a steady flow of HP regeneration because of it granting the soul heart every time it gets used. Since I got it so early, I was able to force a battle with each of the four horsemen to finally unlock completed Meat Boy. In Basement 2, I got a devil room after I beat the boss and found Guppy's Head for three soul hearts. Having survived with exactly three, I grabbed it, died and respawned... The hilarious thing is... I never died after the initial death on purchase. In Caves 1, I found the Nine-Volt in the shop and it was at that point I knew I was set for perfection. I purposefully took as much time as possible in every room to abuse the recharge on the Book to keep my HP high. I think the highest I had was eight or nine hearts, which is huge considering how hard it is to even get any health ups for Blue. I got a whopping three achievements for this run; The Bandage, The D6, and "Forget me Now." Considering how I haven't played this game for more than a few minutes at a time in the past several months, this run exceeded expectations. |

Son of a bitch.
Son of a bitch. Before I left for vacation, I bought Minecraft for XBLA. Now I'm stuck on it. In fact, just today, I spent two hours drawing blueprints for a massive building in paint. Tomorrow I get to find out exactly what kind of labor this will entail. It's a 59x60 footprint, but it's not completely square because that would be boring. It will be built like a massive skyscraper, but it's going to be built from the top layer of bedrock to the highest layer in the sky. Lots of the building is going to be built from Obsidian, and there's no creative mode. Fuck, I can see this is going to be massive. |

Posted by KP9000Unless you go Nether diving (I don't know if the Nether is even in the XBLA version yet) you will never, I repeat never procure enough obsidian to make something that large. Assuming the game is handled similarly to the vastly superior PC version, the world is 128 blocks from the lowest layer of bedrock to the world's sky barrier. So, assuming your non-square shape filled in corners as it turned, and that was the only use of obsidian in the whole structure, it would be anywhere from 30000 to 33000 blocks of obsidian. Even more if you're making your floors and stairs out of it. Given that it takes fifteen seconds to mine a single block with a diamond pickaxe, which is the only way to get the resource block by the way, it would take an excess of five full days real time to mine it, let alone find the lava to make it. This is also assuming you don't misplace any blocks and have to remine them out. Long story short... You're setting youself up for major disappointment. |

Posted by KP9000Six full chests of obsidian is only about 10000 blocks... You have far too much patience, or you've conned your roommates into doing your dirty work for you... :/Posted by TreliorOn another map I have six chests full of stacks of obsidian. The only way I could really think that you could get that much is using a generator setup that abuses a glitch that turns redstone into obsidian. |

Neither of those, actually. It involves placing a single block inside a dispenser, while you repeatedly take it out and pick it up, while a friend breaks the dispenser. The end result is a never ending stack that you can just drop one by one on the floor and pick them all up. Nets about 10 obsidian per second, per person. And it works with any item!
But the building will be made up of other stuff too. Lapis Lazuli, good ol' stone, glass, sandstone, wool for interior (lol lightning) and probably more. Gonna be fucking amazing. Just need to make a solid means of transport. |

Getting ready to /start/ mining away the 215,000 blocks required to have the space for this magnificent building. Perhaps I may die several hundred times due to fall damage.
Wish someone else has the XBLA version so they can die with me. |

Build a ladder and some platforms our of dirt blocks to keep you from falling, then just tear them down when you're done. Always seemed to work well for me. Posted by RyudoWell, if I'm going to build towers, I'd be building them to place TNT in strategic spots to get rid of the most amount of dirt. Right now, my strategy is to dig a hole all the way down to bedrock, then fill it all back in with TNT. So, since I have all this TNT, why not utilize it? I'll probably build dirt towers when I finally start building this structure. I'm not sure when that'll be, but it's going to be glorious. |
