Apologies in advance if this gets a bit long winded or is not in the proper forum, but today is a happy day, and I feel that I must share this story of mine.

While I'm sure nobody here recognizes my name, I was actually a regular poster on the first incarnation of Acmlm's Board many years ago under a different name (sometime in the early 2000s if I had to guess). A longtime friend from high school originally introduced me and some of our mutual friends to the board, and it became a staple of our online presence at the time. The creative layout and RPG stat elements were the first things to catch my eye. Later on, I later grew to love the Sim-Battle Arena and Story Forums, and it was one of my first forays into the world of creative writing. It was simple, a bit crude, and so much fun.

Over time, my school friends all began going inactive as we began graduating and other priorities began taking over. I still lurked and occasionally posted all through the second incarnation until some personal matters came to pass, one of which being far more terrible than I ever expected.

Years later, it was brought to my attention that the same school friend who introduced me to Acmlm's Board long ago, a guy who posted under the names Trunxy and Jin Dogan, unexpectedly passed away in a swimming accident. After he died, it felt like a huge chunk of childhood innocence was gone. His memorial in the subsequent days was the last time all of our real life "Acmlm friends" were all together.

Years later, in a fit of nostalgia, I dug up thousands of my old posts from the old board's archive. They were super awkward to the moon, but it was a wonderful time capsule to a far simpler era in my life. During my search to chronicle what happened to the board, I eventually stumbled onto this Kafuka board, having no idea it existed for all this time. I was shocked and quite glad to see that many users from those years were still around and posting today. I immediately created an account, and here I am.

I don't know how much I'll be posting here in the future (certainly not as much as when I was in junior high), but at the current moment I'm just glad that the Acmlm style of forum posting, along with the people that made it great, still continues today.

To Acmlm, the staff, and all those from those earlier incarnations, I sincerely thank you for the part you played in some very fun years, no matter how small your part may have been. Thanks for continuing to live the fun posting experience, and I look forward to whatever comes next.

I've played D&D for years, and my current group is just wrapping up its latest campaign now. It went on for 2 years, and we're looking to start a new one in January.

I've already settled on playing a bard this time.

I've been playing heaps of Overwatch lately, and Sombra is an awesome addition so far. I am a little bummed that it seems like she renders Torbjorn largely obsolete, though. Maybe I'm missing something?

I gather that the community has slowed down considerably, but what exactly are you referencing here?

Just Joltik and Pikachu so far. I didn't even realize these were collectible at first.

This thing looks very, very intriguing. If the Switch actually capitalizes on this potential and has some solid apps (like the rumored Pokemon Stars), I can see it being pretty rad little console.

If that's the case, I can think of a few matters I've seen on this board and Acmlmboard "culture" in general that could possibly match that description.

Regardless, I see no reason to be sad. I found out Acmlmboards still exist. That's good enough for me.

Yes, I remember her, and I noticed her memorial thread right away. I'm sorry to hear about her passing, but I was already a bit aware of that possibility due to another friend from the old days passing a few years prior to her. I guess I'm just a bit used to it in some odd, morbid way.

If there's anything I truly mourn around here, it's the loss of the single, vibrant community that existed during the I1/I2 days. That's why I really don't care to buy into any of this "bad board" talk and would like to make the best board possible of what remains.

Just found out what's on the agenda for thanksgiving tomorrow, and I feel like bringing the happy today.

well, my mind has invented a Myst type puzzle.


so first, we enter a room. there's a door (a kind of glass door) with a timer on it that reads 5:00. guessing something must be done with it to open the door. it's beeping for some reason, so I do something to it and it stops...

then there are 9 towers. you're supposed to climb specific towers and do things in them, but it's not known what. it's only known that the towers must be activated before you can use them, and you can only activate one at a time.

so I tell my teammate to stay at the towers. I go a bit further, there are boxes atop the wall, one resembling an AC unit, others being things like a smoke detector and a fire alarm, with stickers telling you not to open them.

I open the AC unit. there are 4 switches (~7cm round buttons), they must be pressed in a binary combination to activate the corresponding tower. (or maybe it's not binary, but something else?)

so I want to work out how that crap works and how the towers are numbered. but this is where it gets nonsensical, so bleh.

Anyway, I recently had a dream that every TV, computer, tablet, and smartphone screen was suddenly taken over by an EAS message about an incoming nuclear strike.

I suppose that's what I get for watching creepy videos on youtube at midnight.

My girl is Italian, so we had manicotti and such along with turkey and trimmings. I probably gained 5 pounds today.
