Do you ever forget something obvious while playing a game?
I have a daily routine in Animal Crossing. Sometimes, when I time travel, I forget to do one or two things, then remember after I've already loaded the "next day" and feel stupid. Favorite Video Game Mystery or Easter Egg? I tend to not go out of my way to find that kind of stuff, so none of it really sticks in my mind. The most recent Easter egg I found was in Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom (A Shantae-like) had a nod to Indiana Jones in the temple dungeon. favorite moment in any final fantasy game? Tossup. Both from Final Fantasy IX: Alexander fending off Bahamut and Zidane's self-loathing on Terra when the party tries to convince him that his origin doesn't define him. That song is fucking GREAT. |

I've continued Animal Crossing, unlike @Emuz, I feel like I'm playing too much. It's cutting into my other gaming.
I've gotten my island to a ★★★★☆ rating, and I can't figure out what I need to do to cross the threshold to ★★★★★. All Isabelle says is "Decorate the whole island" BUT WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? Does that mean every subsection of the map needs something in it? If so, what and how many? Can I meet that requirement with flowers? I don't want a bunch of DIY and purchased shit all over my island. I already have WAY TOO MANY roads that I feel have taken away from my natural aesthetic I'm going for. Silver lining: My lilies bred a black flower this morning. Now to cordon it off and continue tending it until it starts to clone itself. The thunderhead: I will never get my hands on a purple pansy under natural occurrence, because pansies don't spawn under my island condition because the parent orange pansies (specific phenotype) are island tour-only, and I don't have island tour pansies. In other gaming news, I now understand why SquareEnix wanted to bury Dragon Quest Builders into obscurity to prop the sequel. It's a fucking terrible game. Finally made it to the chapter 1 boss, and the fucker is damn near untouchable. "Use the Cantlin Shield to block attacks!" the game shrieks. COOL! I'LL GET RIGHT ON THAT AS SOON AS THIS BASTARD STOPS JUMPING TO THE FUCKING MOON AND LANDING ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE CITY! I don't want to make another set of wayfarer's clothes just for the minute speed boost. OH YEAH! Your gear has durability, and the only items you can see your current wear on is your visible tool (weapon, hammer, etc). You could be in the middle of combat and your fucking clothes fall off because you took one too many hits, leaving you completely vulnerable. GREAT DESIGN SQUONX! I want my fifty dollars back. I also started playing Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom. I bought it on a whim because the dev was following me on Twitter when I was playing their Zelda-like, Blossom Tales: The Sleeping King. They interacted with my tweets until I started tearing the game apart because some of their design flaws were glaring through, then they scuttled off. This one surprised me, it's a Shantae-like. Pretty neat stuff. I'm pleasantly enough enjoying the game, only a few places annoyed me (but mostly through player-error). Except the dungeon I'm in now, the volcano. It makes NO SENSE and is brutal with how much damage it inflicts for MINOR ERRORS! Even in Frog/Lion form with the ice armor! Getting to the healing save point while preserving my auto-rez potion was NOT easy. Hopefully it was a case of "I've been playing for eight hours this session and am getting tired" because I am thoroughly not enjoying this section. |

favorite nonstandard pokeball?
Probably dusk ball. But if I'm building a team, I try to put the 'mon in a ball that is appropriate to their coloration or theme. Examples: My shiny shuckle is in a net ball Darmanitan and shiny bisharp in great Sirfetch'd and corsola in premiere Shiny sylveon in a heal |

best use of custom asm you've seen in a mario hack?
I would probably say the prompt at death instead of kicking back to the map is pretty good. Shame it's only ever used on hacks where the hacker decides to take that "I can make bullshit, retardedly hard, levels". >Retry >End EarthBound still hold up 25 years later? As a culture icon, sure. As a game... It shows its age a little too much. |

The Switch has the leg up on its competition that Nintendo has always had: Exclusives that are actually worth the fact they're hostage on the console. I invested because I have more interest in Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, and Animal Crossing (among others) that sold me faster than the SINGLE exclusive on PS4 (inFAMOUS 3). Not to mention that anything else on the PS4 is either also on PC, or will eventually end up there. It also doesn't help that I do NOT approve of Sony moving their ENTIRE gaming division to Los Angeles, but I'd rather not turn that into the political shitstorm that is.
As for investments: Super Mario Odyssey, Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (and the upcoming remaster of XC1), Super Mario Maker 2. As for games that got rereleased from Wuu: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, New Super Mario U Deluxe, Hyrule Warriors: Definitive. Just to name a few. As for value compared to PS4, as implied above: Sony has lost me as a customer. Fuck 'em. |

what piece of game music do you find to be overrated?
I tend to not find the music overrated, more so the games themselves. That would be more likely to get a rant out of me. Which of the SNES Final Fantasy games holds up best in 2020? I haven't played any of the three SNES Final Fantasies on SNES. Although, I did sit through ProJared's retrospective on the trilogy, and would agree with him on Final Fantasy VI. Not just because it's the only one of the three I, personally, played the whole way through. IV annoys me that it's basically SquareEnix's Skyrim. It has been released on just about every goddamn platform since GBA. V bothered me when Krile replaced Galuf, and I just couldn't accept that a seven year old little girl was doing flips, kicks, and wielding swords twice her size (I had built Galuf as a Monk/Knight). I know I missed out on a good ending, and I probably would have appreciated the FFXIV raid tier based on it a bit more, but oh well. |

As for the Playstation Final Fantasies, which holds up the best today?
Going to assume you mean main series, and not any of the remakes. IX. Full stop. Mainly because it went back to the Fantasy namesake with steampunk instead of being overtly scifi. It also has the motif of existentialism that I find fascinating. VIII didn't make ANY fucking sense. It's story is coherent for the first disc, then goes absolutely insane on disc 2 and doesn't slow down on the absurdity. Don't get me started on the gameplay mechanics. I hated the magic system and how the junctioning system disincentivized use of your magic anyway. The affinity system with the Guardian Forces was interesting, but it didn't save the rest of it. VII, while I admit is a good game, is NOT worth the hype it gets dumped on it. Yes, it was graphically revolutionary when measured up to its contemporaries, but a lot of it has aged poorly. As for the characters, I feel a lot of people idolize Cloud and Sephiroth based on their flanderization (of the wrong traits) given to them in the expanded universe and Kingdom Hearts. FFVII Cloud was a goofball that pretended to be a badass because of the mako fuckery Shinra did to him. Kingdom Hearts Cloud is aloof, kinda pompous, ass that gives zero fucks about anyone. FFVII Sephiroth was a walking Oedipus complex, all "JENOVA this" and "JENOVA that" and being generally creepy. Kingdom Hearts Sephiroth is just about everything but that, taking far too heavily off of his megalomaniacal bent at the end of FFVII without the omnicidal desire. Mishandling of the characters and driving a cult following of them that misses the point. Weird how the one I like is the one I had the least to say. played any Dragon Quest games? Yes, and I regularly watch speedruns and randomizers for 1-4. Games in the series I have played to completion are: 1 (GB), 2 (GB), 4 (DS), 5 (DS), 6 (DS, insofar as I made it to the final boss, but never beat him), 8 (PS2, to the perfect end), and 9. Spinoffs I've played to completion are Monsters (I filled a notebook, that I have since lost, with notes on damn near everything about this game, impressive for being 12 when I did it) , Monsters: Joker, and Builders 2. Never finished 3, 7, 11, Monsters 2 (Had Cobi's Journey), or Builders 1 because I either forgot about them, or just didn't want to play them anymore. As far as my opinion on how the flagship series of the namesakes of their company: Dragon Quest maintained the quality that made it so great. probably because Enix didn't break Dragon Quest by trying to "fix" it so fucking much. |

My misadventures on my island continue by breaking down and looking up what the ★★★★★ requirements were, and I was right. I needed a bunch more items (DIY and purchased) to clusterfuck my island with. What I ended up doing was doing the ABSOLUTE MINIMUM to hit the threshold to get my golden watering can recipe, and now I'm keeping the rating up to get ten lilies of the valley. Once I get my special flower quota, I'm gonna rip the shit up that's uglifying my island and do what I want again.
As for flowers: I decided to hunker down and breed my way to a blue rose, which is not going particularly well... Following a guide, I'm about 1/3 of the way there, and I'm even accelerating the process with time travel. As far as other flower varieties I'm missing, they are: purple pansies, green chrysanthemums, black cosmos, and purple hyacinths. They're all the super rare variants, go figure. As for the other 48 varieties in the game that I have: I plucked everything but what was in my breeding and cloning beds, gathered them by species and color, and took stock. I reduced populations of colors per species to 20, then will be cloning those under 20 until they reach that point. The exceptions being lilies of the valley and gold roses, I want ten of them because they're so hard to get a hold of due to cloning not working on them. This is an exercise in frustration. |

I decided that 20 was too many of each flower, so I reduced that threshold to 10. Further thinking about it, I found that the 10 was too many, so I will be reducing to 5.
There will be flowers I will be maintaining above 5, but the majority will be getting cut down. Flowers I will be keeping above 5: gold roses (they're fucking valuable, 1000 bells per flower, every other day is INSANE) that I have 13, lilies of the valley that I have 26, anything in blue or purple (varying greatly from species to species), and green mums that I have 13. What I'll be paring them down to hasn't been decided as of yet, but I can say that my lilies of the valley and gold roses will be maintained as-is. I may keep no more than 10 at the max of any variety of flower. Still need to decide where I'm putting what flowers. |

I didn't really get into Pokemon until Crystal, so the dumb shit like that died down by that point. favorite genesis game? I was a Nintendo kid, so this isn't applicable. |

least favorite chapter in any fire emblem game?
Not interested in Fire Emblem. Most frustrating legendary to capture, in your experience/opinion? Master Ball-less Mewtwo in RBY. What will you play when you're done with Animal Crossing? Already moved back to Hyrule Warriors. |

favorite gym leader?
Since the story is so shallow throughout the Pokemon games outside of the narrative around the evil group, I'm just gonna go off of which one I find most aesthetically pleasing. That is BW1's Elesa. Best Dragon Ball story arc? I haven't paid attention to Dragon Ball in over fifteen years, at least the un-fucked-with story. I skipped Dragon Ball, I'm not interested in Super, and GT was shitty fanfiction. I guess I'd have to say, maybe, the Cell games? Ever owned any Atari game consoles? Not personally, no. |

If you're asking personally? Games in general I don't care for. Like, you'll never see me play a shooter. If you ignore the Super Scope games I've streamed, of course. |

Been playing Hyrule Warriors again. I put it down after finishing story mode. Been plugging away at adventure mode. I have the original map, Great Sea, Master Quest, and Master Sea complete. Working on Twilight (55% as of writing) now, and I fucking hate it.
It's not an "I hated Twilight Princess and hate the adventure map based on it" so much as "the difficulty is artificial" It's a "hard" map insofar as the constraint on the themed difficult panels is one of the three of "No MP", "No SP", or "No items" and radar blindness. HOWEVER! The Tears of Light to get rid of the Twili effect is put in convenient enough places that you can completely dispel the Twilight if you do it right. Granted, the Great Sea effects on both of the Wind Waker maps were similarly easy to ignore, either outright or to clear the effect away. But they weren't bad when you ignored them (namely the No-item tornadoes) since they didn't tack a second layer of bullshit. I'm also not a fan of how the game gives you access to some characters, then doesn't allow you to improve their weapons until SIGNIFICANTLY LATER! You get Linkle in story mode, but you don't get her good weapon until DEEP into the first adventure map (the boots are ace, her crossbows are worthless and the scenes involving them make her out to be a worthless ditz), but you can't upgrade to level 3 or above crossbows or 2 and beyond for the boots until the Koholint map, which is Heroic difficulty. They also give you Medli incredibly early in the Great Sea map, but she isn't required at all (or upgradeable) until Master Sea, where she gets the rank 4 harp (incidentally, the first rank 4 weapon of the whole cast if you're playing it in order like I am). I don't know what Koei did to this game when combining the two inferior versions and porting them, but the game gets SUPER unstable after it runs for long enough. I'm talking six to eight hours. Unacceptable because I've played marathon sessions of Animal Crossing that have spanned sixteen hours and that game never even pretended to jank out at all. But this one does WEIRD shit. You can see named units' HP bars and names, ground textures pop in and out at near seizure-inducing frequency, and the level geometry clips itself in freaky ways. It would be comical if it wasn't telegraphing an imminent crash. SPEAKING OF CRASHES! This game can be crashed on purpose in the smithy in the bazaar. Go into Sell mode, mark all of your weapons for sale, individually sell the last one that can't be mass-marked (gotta have at least one weapon per category) then confirm the mass sale. The game won't know what to do, so it cashes to the home screen. GREAT QA DUMBASSES! |

What would you say is the worst JRPG you've ever played?
I find it hard to hate a lot of JRPGs, I usually just lose interest or don't have time to play them... While, ironically, dropping hundreds of hours into other games... ever wanted to get good at rhythm games? Nope! |
