I had a dream where I was a kid again, hanging out with the neighborhood kids, when the neighborhood retard, who rides a horse to get around, came by. The kid wasn't fully retarded, but holy /shit/, a HORSE, man! I LOVE horses! Except this one, which seemed to be infatuated with causing physical pain to me and only me. It kept biting me, and pushing me into the nearby electric fence. Strangely, I figured out I could hold its snout shut and it wouldn't move. It was at that moment I solemnly wished that the retard kid could understand me when I was telling him to get the horse the hell out of here. At that point, I woke up. |

1. What's your favorite season (Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter) and why?
Winter. I love the snow, and I love the cold. Always easier (for me) to warm up than it is to cool down. 2. What's your favorite genre of video games? Platformer/arcade followed closely by FPSes. Good FPSes, not repetitive ones. *coughcodcough* 3. Retro or modern games? Retro. People who were born in my day were exposed to the golden era of gaming. They know that graphics don't make a game what it is. 4. Are you on a laptop or desktop? Laptop. Occasionally a netbook, and also my phone. My laptop is from 2004, and it needs to be retired. 5. What OS do you run? Windows XP Pro 32bit 6. What's your favorite movie genre? Comedies. Tied for that spot is SciFi movies. Star Trek, Stargate, Tron, Disaster movies, etc.. 7. What brought you to Kafuka? I seeded the whole damn thing. 8. Do you have any siblings? If so, how do you like them? Three step-brothers (I don't believe in "step" brothers, just "brothers" to me) and one biological sister. My brothers are highly ignorant to consequences, and to a lesser degree, so is my sister. But they're alright. 9. Are you right handed or left handed? Right handed. 10. What is your favorite flavor of ice cream? Hmm... difficult one. There's a pistachio one I really like; other than that, good ol' vanilla. 11. What was your first Acmlmboard experience? I was lurking the first Acmlm's way back in the day. Not even sure what date. 12. What was the last book your read? The Book of Mormon (Nearing my 6th or 7th read-through) 13. What's your favorite webcomic? (links please) Don't have one. Whatever people link to in IRC seems to occasionally tickle my fancy. 14. What's your favorite midnight snack? Whatever I'm in the mood for. This usually turns out to be Oreos and milk. 15. Do you sleep on your front, side or back? Depends on my mood and how I'm feeling. Laying on my front with my head turned to my left seems to induce sleeping (possibly due to the higher blood pressure in my head) and then when I get tired enough, I flip over to my back. I find myself on my side a lot when I wake up. 16. How do you deal with headaches? When I wake up sometimes I get these horrible tension headaches. The usual way for me to deal with them seems to be acetaminophen/ibuprofen. Other headaches I just have to power through since I usually don't have medicine with me or the medicine doesn't work. 17. What's your favorite food? Artichokes. Steamed. Served with a sauce cup of melted butter with lemon juice. Mayonnaise goes well with it too. A good steak dinner follows closely behind. Rump Roast dinner also works great. 18. Are you a day person, or night person? I'm all over the place due to my work schedule, so I don't really care. I just don't like waking up by any other means than waking up unheeded. 19. Do prefer hot drinks or cold drinks? Cold. I only like Hot Cocoa hot, and also herbal tea. 20. What is your occupation? I'm a general associate (cashier, stocker, furniture) at a closeout store called Big Lots. 21. Do you travel? If so, what other countries/states have you been to? I only have been to vacations to California (SeaWorld/Disneyland) and Las Vegas (Circus Circus, Stratosphere) with my parents, other than flying back home to Arizona occasionally to visit them. Posted by Marzen64Bahahahaha, that's hilarious. I probably wasn't that much different than you and I somehow ended up on staff. Did you go by a different name back then? |

What time would you suggest, Gywall? I would need to check my schedule as well. I'm off Wednesday and Friday. Thursday I get off work at 7:30 PM MST.
I also propose we find an acceptable form of proof for those who cannot stream. I think we could make a movie file with an emulator, render it, upload it to youtube, and post a link to download said movie file in the description of the video. Movie files would show rerecords, would it not? We should also use SRL's bot to keep time in case we need to check the bot's time against the movie length so we can tell if speedup/slowdowns are used. |

That raises an interesting point, Giga. If we are not streaming, we dont necessarily have to have everyone compete at the same time. We could just have a set deadline for those who want to compete. To submit a playthrough, I imagine we could just have everyone submit their movie file along with a rendered video (or YouTube link) before the deadline in a PM to the host. After the deadline, we could post the results after a short review period. I bet we could even render all of the videos playing together when everything is done! |

Of course it's fun for those who /can/ stream to stream live. But really, what difference does it make for those who can't? (I guess the only one being that a user can race a /bunch/ of times and only submit their best run. That puts those who stream on unequal grounds, I suppose.) |

No, not the transparent fizzy lemon-lime drink Sprite.
I'm talking about those little dudes and doodads that pop up on your screen every now and then that you can click on and collect. Those. Check out this thread to discuss this information. To recap: We need Sprites that fit the Retro era of gaming, preferably 8-bit ones. We need to start out with CORE FRANCHISES at first. If we get enough, then we can branch out to 16-bit and more obscure (and non-game oriented) Sprites. Requirements are stated as follows: - Must not blend into background easily. Make a black outline around (and inside) them if the game was designed with a black neutral color. (See Metroid sprites for a good example) - Must be size optimized. No .bmp files. If you use a non-lossless format, make sure it's not noticeable. - aGIF for animation preferred. PNG or GIF for still sprites accepted. Indexed PNG's are nice for the ability to specify palettes. (A palette of 64 colors is ideal; if you need more, 128 or 256 is also acceptable) - Use Dropbox for your uploading needs. I would love to have you guys use this link because it's a referral link; anyone who uses it nets me a bonus. I'd appreciate it. On top of that, it's really the best upload service out there. No ads, no captchas, no bullshit. Drop files in this local folder and they go wherever you have Dropbox installed. You can even access them through the website! - Optional: Include a description and a mouseover text for your sprite. - Optional: Remember to make your Sprite with an indexed palette, starting with 64 colors or 128 or 256 if you need more. - Optional: Animate your Sprites. The extra mile adds a nice appeal to the feature. Here are the suggested franchises we'd like:
Remember, participation is rewarded! Not much we can do right now in terms of practical, useful stuff; but things are planned, and you won't be forgotten! |

It took me about an hour and a half to file them. I got about ~$1250 back from federal and state taxes. I filed with Arizona and Utah this year, and didn't owe on either of them. |

Alright, I've been unbanned from the srl channel, so now at least I can help moderate the races. I will submit my movie files, for the sake of doing so, but I will not count my runs official/valid until I can stream. I can be present in the race channel for the sake of moderating/logging but will not be able to enter unless I can start streaming.
Got more than I'd hoped for taxes, so hopefully i'll be able to stream fairly soon. |

I think the rules/guidelines we'd like to apply should be developed some more, especially if this is to turn into a Kafuka event.
The rules for our setup should closely mimic SpeedRunsLive's FAQ especially since we'll likely be using their timekeeping medium. That being said, the recap for the main rules and guidelines are as follows: - No emulator assist-tools whatsoever. - Game must run at a 100% speed. - Game version must be the same as everyone else's. (SNES SMB3 and NES SMB3 are similar enough to be an exception) - Glitch usage must be specified before match (note: no specifications means you can use whatever glitches you want) - Specify your goal. (any% means get to the end of the game any way you can. Example: any% warpless for SMB3 means "complete the game without warp whistles. 100% means complete all levels.) - Cheat codes may be used ONLY if it is specified in the goal. I'd really like to emphasize the need to have people stream their runs, only because of the uncertain circumstances associated with those who complete their runs in a manner that isn't easily verifiable with the public. A way to compete without streaming is still being discussed. One method is that you must record an emulator movie file (so we can tell if you used savestates or not) and also render a movie file for upload to YouTube. You must also be present on the SpeedRunsLive race channel where you can be accounted for by the bot, so we have a time for you. That way, if there's any suspicion of cheating, we can check your time against the video file you rendered and we can check the actual emulator movie file you recorded. You cannot submit any runs that have not been recorded by the combination of: 1) the bot accounting for your entry; 2) emulator movie file; and 3) YouTube video file. This means that you can't pre-record your runs and just submit your best one because the SRL bot wouldn't have a time for you. |

What type of level format will it be? Tilemap based?
Since it's SNES, I wonder if you could have the old format intact for things like bonus games, cutscenes, etc. because that's the issue with Reuben's format. If you're going to implement a new level format by itself, we'll have to fix and implement those things to make them work. |

While the project itself is ambitious as a whole, I think if we break it down into seperate simple goals, we will have a much more attainable goal in the beginning. Once we have some accomplishments under our belt, we will have something to say for our progress, which in turn nets more interest from the rest of the community.
So, let's start a simple goal. I've been itching to mess with the title screen data a little bit. What should be the name of this hack? I'm sure I could find some kind of data relating to the title screen. I'm also sure Insectduel has some data regarding it as well, since he hacked it recently for Frank's 2nd SMB3 hack. |

My mind's been on SMB3 lately. Watched an SRL race last night, gained some insight on a better any% route. I've also been thinking a little bit about hacking the SMAS version of SMB3.
Otherwise, my thoughts have been dwelling on my taxes, and what I'm going to do with them. I also have a ton of other stuff to do on my day off tomorrow. |

What kind of ine and internet connection do you have? I'd like to be able to get a computer that has enough oomph to do all that processing. I have a USB capture card (Gamebridge) to grab video from. I have several systems, but I'd also like to be able to use emulators to do all that as well. So, when the time comes, I'll probably be pestering you, Acmlm, to get me started. I've already fiddled with some of the programs (Xsplit) and FME. Hopefully all goes well and I can finally participate. |

Man, I'm almost flabbergasted that there's not really an editor for this game yet. I think we should contact whoever has the MushROMs editor and see what we can do with all this. I am getting really excited about this project! |
