What are the thoughts of those in here of a multi-community Minecraft server? Would any of you play on it? Communities such as the ones I frequent, mostly IRC channels consisting of #rom-hacking, #furry, #metconst, and possibly others... Board2 and of course Kafuka are also my targets.

I'm eyeing getting a server started up and I may turn it into a serious thing if I can garner enough interest.

The server itself will operate based on feedback given from various places, so speak up! I'm currently eyeing a simple survival/co-op server, nothing fancy.

I'm still pretty new to this so I'm learning as I go. I'm not sure what's out there as far as mods and things go, so feel free to educate me if you like!

Let me know what all your thoughts are!

#metconst isn't near as bad as it used to be. Everyone there's pretty chill now. I haven't seen PJ around for a while.

But yeah, I'm eyeballing some decent paid osting, so if anyone wants a place to call home alongside Kafuka, Minecraft it is! It will be Kafuka branded and will have its own forum section here. No tricks to join, just an address to plug in and connect! Uptime will be constant.

Those of you who haven't played the PC version, there's a ton of stuff to do; don't let it overwhelm you.

If you're a builder, you can construct your desires. If you're an adventurer, you can discover new horizons. If you're a warrior, you can vanquish evil. If you're a scientist, you can build a space ship!

Moving from pocket/console editions to PC might have a bit of a learning curve to it, but there will be mods in place to help make things easier. One of my favorites is the one that shows you all of the recipes that show you how to make certain things. That will be super useful when you find things you have never seen before! A lot of this mod stuff is new to me, too, so it'll be interesting. :D

Introducing:

That's right, folks, Kafuka will be getting its own Minecraft server! Some of you may have already heard, but I've been working on getting a Minecraft server up for those who want another level of interaction with the community. This is a preliminary period where I'll be taking notes and suggestions for the server, such as what mods to keep (or throw out) or just basic needs and wants.

You know when you hear companies ask you for your opinion and that it's 'very valuable' to them to make the experience or product better? And that it annoys the shit out of you when they ask for it? Well, now I'm on the receiving end here, and now I must ask all of you to raise up your voices. I want to hear what your gripes are, how easy/hard it is for you to set up, what gets in the way, and what helps you out.

I intend this to be a survival co-op server, so I don't want there to be any griefing (making life difficult for other players, destroying their things) or this experience may not go over well for anyone. I'm paying for this out of my pocket, so out of respect to me and everyone else, don't be a troll. Play nice.

To set it up, it's rather easy.
  • Download the Tekkit launcher for your operating system
  • Run the launcher, and login with your Minecraft login credentials
  • On the left side of the launcher, select "Hexxit" and then hit "Play"- the launcher will install and launch your game
  • Once in-game, click on "Multiplayer", then "Add Server"
  • Put what you want the name of this server to be in the "Server Name" box (I called mine Kafuka)
  • In the "Server Address" box, put in "kafuka.mcnode.net" (without quotes) and then click "Done". This will likely change in the future, keep an eye on this thread!
  • Double click on the Kafuka server you just added, or just highlight it and click "Join Server"! You're connected to Coldhallow!

Again, if there are any issues, questions, suggestions, or opinions, post them here. This thread will be the one to keep checking back for the time being. I intend to open up a new forum for this once things get smoothed out a bit.

Coldhallow is LIVE! Have fun!

Thanks for sharing, Kawa. Short, simple works like this are entertaining and make you think more about it after it's over. Love the humor!

When I get home I'll check my PSD. :P I can't remember the name of it at the moment. I really like it, but I might redo it because if you look at the letters it looks as if they were skewed in groups of three. (Look at "Welcome" for best evidence of this)

Oh, Photoshop....

they always site how we could have a few more serious, discussion creating, and news items. (Well many other things but that's the common thing I get) What would be cool is to more projects and initiative. I'm proud of KP for working hard to start a MC server and making it a part of Kafuka.
One question I always ask when I think about participating on a forum is "Is the news stopping at me?" which, for some, seems to be a dead-end. I think if the active posters here can take a mentality of "passing things on", we'd have more threads about happenings in the political, gaming, or even wacky things going on in our world, nationally or local. The ask threads aren't a problem; the problem is, that's all we seem to have right now. If we have users engaging elsewhere on things that are right in front of them, I think Kafuka will get much brighter.

Additionally, thanks Emuz for the recognition. It's going to be a learning process throughout the entire life of the server. I can tell you, as server owner, that I won't be a "dead-end" and will take what is said/done about my server to heart. My long term goal for this is to get my own launcher set up with my own modpack, and what's /in/ the modpack will largely be dependent on the communities' wants and needs.

So far, the server has already seen 4 simultaneous users online. That was before I extended it to board2 or #metconst. People are playing nicely. I do need more players though; I found a huge fortress full of "Walkers" and got my shit pushed in while walking around the perimeter. I need reinforcements.

If you're new, I will help you out. I can teach you what to do, what to watch out for, and how to survive. It's a massive world, but by no means do you need to take it all in. Hell, I don't know most of the stuff that's in these mods yet. But the server is adventure focused, so gathering materials and learning recipes is going to be no big deal. You can even breed/ride Chocobos!

So, are there any other people here who haven't gone on vacation for a very long time? >_>
I haven't been on a *real* vacation in 18 years. I will finally be going on one in about a week and a half. I will be going on a cruise to Ensenada, Mexico!

Honestly when I did my spree, it never broke the connection either, so it must be something new.
It's under-the-hood stuff. The Powers That Be are on it; bear with us.

I leave for a few days and the place gets taken over by Minecraft?! Still haven't played that game. Not sure if I ever will, despite all the hype.
That's strong wording. More like we have a minecraft server, just like we have an IRC server and a 1920's era subway tile bathroom with clawfoot tub~ :)
I've seen this bathroom. I love the victorian vanity sink in there, looks amazing.

I am pretty sure it was a stock font that came with Photohop/windows, near the beginning of the alphabet in the list. So it's entirely possible that the name badges or whatever had used this font.

Yeah, I was going to say that we needed a "neighborhood crew" sort of cartoon, that isn't generally aimed at kids and doesn't feature a majority. Something like a grown-up "Recess" for adults would rock my face off!

It's probably a proof of concept. Or maybe it wanted to get its emulator onto the android platform just like all the other emulators. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to play Paper Mario TTYD on my phone... I just think we'd have to do it on the Galaxy S9. :P

So about an hour ago at work, I was busy typing up a reply to this, wishing away the heat and wanting the rain to come back, when I got my wish... The contractors upstairs broke a water pipe and water gushed down through the ceiling directly onto my computer...

Yeah, Emuz, your answer was pretty thoughtful; but to the rest of you, notice that I said who and not what...

But yeah, I'm probably going to get that GC adapter. I like the fact that it's USB; which means someone's probably going to write a PC driver for it; and that means I'll be able to properly play Paper Mario TTYD again!

I'm having 20 or so people over tonight to play Mario Kart 8 and a bunch of other games. It's going to be sick! So I may not be around as much tonight.

It's not a specific name.

[read: Rhetorical question] Is there anyone besides @"Reizenni" that can't possibly comprehend the fact that I was just dicking around and not actually asking a real question? Please help me feel like I'm only talking to one damn wall and not several of them.

Apparently the Mario Kart 8 party I'm hosting is turning into a general Mario Kart party for every game. :D Gonna bust out the console versions for everything; and maybe the GBA one on the GB Player. :D

I've got an endless supply of pixie sticks!
So let me ask you something Next Jen... When you eat pixie sticks, have you ever eaten the entire stick, paper and all? I do it occasionally. :P

I eat pixie sticks religiously as well, but I can't help but feel like a horrible person for eating 2803957 sticks of flavored/colored sugar in one sitting. But... it's... so... gooooooooooooooooooood.......
