I really want to find a Kendo club that I can go to. There are some around here but they are a little bit farther then I'd like. I've been trained to use a rifle and it just doesn't sit well with me. It feels awkward and it feels like I shouldn't be holding it in my hand. But I have also had knife combat training, knifes and weapons like them just feel right, especially a sword. When I grip the hilt of a bladed weapon it feels as if I can do anything. As long as that hilt stays clenched in my hands I can take on the world and anything it throws at me.

They say that a sword is an extension of the wielder's soul, that may be a cliche for some but I believe in that saying. I also believe that since melee weapons have become obsolete in battle that this world no longer has honor. Maybe I'm just old fashioned, but I would love to be in an era where the sword wasn't just a weapon but a way of life.

How about you guys? Do any of you have combat training, if so with what? Have any stories about your encounters with weapons or your training? I have some I could share if you guys are interested in this thread.

I wouldn't really call it that killer, but if you're not prepared it can kill you. I have Experience with paintball guns and such. I'm going to get training for a real pistol, I'll need it if I'm getting training to become a cop, too.

I know what you mean though. I've tried numerous times to craft a sharp wooden swords that really worked, and then molding it in a metal casing and putting a hilt on it.

I never got that far, but I did craft the wooden sword part.

I've not got training as such with most things, but I've self-taught myself how to use various things in self defence.

I also prefer to use something shorter and lighter. They're so much easier to move around quicker.

I've had training in all manner of firearms. Not really PROFESSIONAL training, I'll be fair, but chances are if I had one and I wanted you dead, you'd be dead pretty soon. I'm a good shot with rifles, shotguns (The kind you use for clay pigeon shooting, not sawed off ones you don't need to aim), and pistols. I don't own any though. I don't trust myself enough to own a gun, but I at least know how to use em. Oh, also, I had classes in Bows and Arrows. But I really sucked at it.

As for other weapons not of the shooty sort, I own a sword. It's super dull and was only ever made for decoration, I believe, but it pokes well. It's small, and I'd NEVER say I have training in it. >_>

I like staves though. I'm not much for swords, since there doesn't seem to be much of a way to NOT kill someone with it, but staves are cool, can be used to disable instead of kill, and all that. But they can also be unwieldy, from experience, especially to the inexperienced like myself.

I wouldn't ever really get weapon training (other than my firearm training), I'd just go to a martial arts school and learn some of that. For self defense only, of course.

Oh right. I forgot that I also had training in Archery. Composite Bows they we're, in our Physical Education class in grade 8, we learned how to hold, fire and how far back to stand with a composite bow, we used real metal tip arrows so if anyone missed or dry fired, then shit would happen.

I have had professional training on rifles and handguns, and also study martial arts. I haven't been to class since I left Japan, but I can use tonfa, sai and nunchuckau. And as a couple here would guess from knowing me for many years (Emuz and Krel), swords. =P It may give them a heart attack, but surprisingly, I would say that I am most proficient without any weapons, but know how to use them if they are available.

In our costuming group we had a police instructor. We were trying to get a realistic military presence so he actually trained us (roughly/unofficially of course.) I wasn't too bad on target practice.

I don't own any real firearms. I have plenty of movie quality replicas that if I had to I could bluff my way out of some situations if I had no choice. I have a few combat bayonets. I always carry as Swiss army knife and I could always use that in a worse case.

I have zero training or martial arts experience so in close combat without some kind of weapon I'm kinda boned.

However I can also be ridiculously strong when I am agitated. However that's only as good as the objects surrounding me, or where I am in relation to any attacker.

However I am mostly a passive kind of a guy so I avoid those kinds of situations heh.

I haven't really ever done anything as far as weapon training goes, but when I was a kid, I loved target archery. I don't have much arm strength, so pulling even a 30 pound test compound bow is hard for me to do. It's a shame, because I want to go target shooting again some time.

Oh yeah.. Archery. I was pretty decent as long as I wasn't over-drawing the bow.. which I did a fair few times. >_>

I would like to learn how to use a sword and a polearm one day for self-defense purposes. Perhaps I will do as my uncle did and spend a year or two in China learning from Shaolin monks. He is now rather proficient in a traditional style of Chinese martial arts. It is quite impressive, and I would like to do the same.

Or maybe I should learn to fight with something more elegant, like a Chinese steel fan.

Yes, I think I would like to learn how to use a Chinese steel fan. It is an extremely classy and elegant weapon.

Nope, haven't had any weapon training. Although it's unlikely anyone would try to rape/rob me, given how huge I am <_< >_>

My dad is a gun nut, he has guns all over his house. It scared me as a kid.

The only weapons I've ever used or what could be considered one would be a bb gun (lol), cross bow, some other bow, and something I am forgetting. I have held a shotgun before but only because my step dad long ago let me hold it or something. It was probably loaded too if I remember correctly.

However, I don't really have any training whatsoever or don't remember. I could if I wanted, quickly learn.

If we're to count BB guns as weapons.. I'll say I'm quite accurate at firing assuming no wind influence.

Also, the one I have can be used as a hammer in the worst case. It's pretty damned heavy.
