[13:39] <+Gywall> I'm getting the impression, knuck wishes to modernise the process by swapping a classical text area with a rich, java-script lavished rich text editing field.. but on the other hand, Nina prefers a classical text area with the freedom to style it with html & css where wanted as opposed to following some "mind-dampening" styling buttons?
[13:39] <knuck> Green-Kirby: I started coding a js+php version of it but got lazy lol
[13:40] <Nina> Exactly.
[13:40] <Nina> @ Gywall
[13:40] <+Gywall> Why don't we really follow a MediaWiki example and have a toggle to enable-disable such a field? Both parties happy?

Based off this from IRC. May be worthwhile to install a Rich-text reply/layout box.

Keeping the legacy textbox for the html/css people.
A default switch would be nice too.

It's something that's been on my mind. I agree with Nina as well. I think what we need is three modes:

Pure HTML - for those who wish to use HTML raw without censor. This of course NEEDS a per usual toggle to disabled on the moment of absue.

Current Style - What we have now. Restricted HTML, Maybe play with the br tags a little.

WYSIWIG/RTF - Basically what Knuck is working on. Something the novice can really get started with if they want to. (or the lazy ie: me) If we ever use the uploader we can tie it into that.

Thoughts?

Hmm, looking at Gywall's post, I think we should make the [code] tag automatically insert line breaks? :P
EDIT: I mean, some way to do wordwrap.

15:38:30 < Nina> A small suggestion for the item shop: Make it show descriptions below the item name so you don't have to click the item to see them
15:38:50 < NoLimitBot> Nina is now equipped with Wooden plank.
15:39:02 <%Kawa> title attribute?
15:39:09 < NoLimitBot> Nina is now equipped with Paper Hat.
15:39:35 < NoLimitBot> Nina is now equipped with Boots ME.
15:39:42 < Nina> That works too.
15:39:54 <%Kawa> It's certainly an easy and painless way to get there.

Also, we should consider adding back some spacing to the board header. Having it all stuck together makes it look cluttered, especially on the index page.

Speaking of spacing, what is everyone's opinion of spacing the forum categories in the index? After the end of each forum list of a category there could be a bit of space.
Not sure if everyone would like this though.

Preview edit: I just noticed that reviewing this post doesn't show posts but the normal ones do. I think this might be a group permission error or something.

A bit of vertical spacing, not too much, might be nice. Perhaps just increase the category rows' height a bit?

A couple of ideas have been running through my head, ever since I accidentally hit my alias button in IRC for the old board2 !radio command. Emuz lightly touched on the idea of starting up a Kafuka Radio, which, to me, sounds like a grand idea.

From that idea spawned another, and here's where it can get fun real fast: a Video Game Music competition. There was an old thread on board2 (which I can't link to right now since it's dead) where users would nominate songs they liked in the VG Music world. There were a few rules though; it had to be original, and one person could only nominate n songs. In the end, 128 songs were nominated, and two brackets of 64 were created. Each song had the song title, game it was from, a screenshot of the game boxart, and who nominated it. There was also a "best loser" bracket of 64. Users would make votes on their favorite songs of the round, which would be held daily, two to four songs per round depending on how far into the bracket we are. Tied songs would carry over to the next round where the next person to vote breaks the tie.

I'm not sure what the medium was that the thread author used to keep track of the brackets, it was some site you could go to and plug in info. But perhaps we could integrate some kind of bracket system into the board? It already seems like we could use it, because of the Kafuka Pokemon League thread.

These two ideas can be compounded to generate a nice chunk of activity and content for Kafuka. We need it. Perhaps the last 8 songs from each bracket could be the start of a Kafuka Radio playlist. Those songs would generally be liked by the community since those songs came out on top by popular vote.

What say ye?

Sounds pretty interesting to me. I wouldn't know too much about its setup as I haven't messed much in that area. Of course, I can see to working on what I can later on.

Oh and while I am here, I think we should have some sort of pagination for the posts found in search since if you search for a super used word, your browser is screwed for a board like Board2 or anywhere with over tens or hundreds of thousand posts. Not a problem too much now but it can be.

Indeed on the the pagination. Anything to shrink large pages/threads/results is good. Hopefully we can get that big.. even if not, someone else will :)

The radio will require the actual server to broadcast the music. So we'll need to do that separately. What would be cool is if we can find an in browser icecast stream player..

Uploader was suggested, and we have the code from ABXD donated by @Kawa, but I'd rather go scratch built if possible. I also don't know if we need it or not. It depends on how board2's fate goes.. and if we really want to hold a crapload of data...

Cool. I don't know much about the setup either, all I know is how it all went down, which is pretty much all explained in my prior post. We pretty much have to fill in the blanks.

What about going public with this idea? Would it do any good? Would we be unwise to do so due to the possibility of deflating its impact if we had otherwise chose to keep it secret until it was finished?

I'm all for surprises but it depends what we want to go for. Having a good impact and first strong impression of the system may have people really support it and not let it fall as flat as the other radio. I suppose we should listen to see how other developers feel about this but I do think we should at least develop the system first and make sure it is as flawless as possible.

I'm with @Scrydan on this one. I think it should be revealed when it's ready for live. Plus I would place this lower on the list of things to do coding wise since we have a few core things we need to get done.

We would need an icecast server that's the first thing..

Here's something I just thought of; a possible new way to gain Syndromes or maybe a different type.

For years and ever it has relied on post count. Some frown at those who might post A LOT to achieve this. (sorry :P)
However, I have an additional thing in mind that might make it not only about count but perhaps count plus the content in their latest posts. Perhaps after typing a certain amount of posts with a certain amount of content, you will gain the same Syndrome or possibly a different one? (a content heavy version) While if you have less content you will get the typical syndrome you would expect.

Thoughts?

Suggestion: Make permissions and add templates from BlargBoard instead of $L

Why would we do that? Acmlmboard 2 is Acmlmboard 2 and Blargboard was Blargboard. Yeah, we will probably replace $L in the future
but the permission system doesn't need to be revamped to become just like Blargboard's and templates may or may not be used but if templates are used, it will not be exactly like in Blargboard. :P

Replacing $L is better for the sake of sanity. It'd make sense back in the days where CSS wasn't really a thing, but now, uh... natural HTML is better.

(and also the []'s are a pain to type on azerty keyboards)
