I'm not that great with computers.

I know how to fix things on the computer, not in them. And even then, after nearly 10 years of using a computer every day of my life, I'm sitll not that good at fixing things. Sometimes, I got no fucking idea what's wrong. This is one of those times. I need a little help and advice.

Okay so, to be blunt, my internet is dying a lot. And it's not dying as in cutting out, it's dying as in "Well it SAYS the internet is connected but nothing works". Some other times, it says the internet is connected, but only instant messengers work. I cannot connect to webpages or video games or anything. There is no way to fix this, I just have to wait for up to five minutes until the internet fixes itself. Highscore is 15 minutes.

So why is it doing this? I don't think it's my computer, because it doesn't normally do this. I go home, and the internet works perfectly fine. I go to college, it doesn't. It doesn't work properly in the coffee shop downtown either though, so I dunno. Other people I talk to here don't seem to have this problem, it's just me.

Any ideas or suggestions of anything I can try to make this issue go fuck itself? Cause seriously, it's getting annoying.

My first thought is that it could be an ISP issue. My ISP (CenturyLink) will sometimes refuse to let me on for a whole day. Maybe some equipment at your ISP isn't allowing everything through.

Yeah but why would they keep me from doing this and not everyone else? I don't do anything crazy (we're not able to torrent here so I don't even bother), and I know others who are on the internet even more than me. Why would they single me out?

I switched my DNS servers over to Google's, and it's still fuckin' up. As a matter of fact right now, it's happening. I'm currently typing with fucked up internet.

If it'll help anyone diagnose what's going on, when I'm playing games and the internet dies, most of the time I can still see things that are going on around me, but I can't do things. Like, I can hear people talking in TF2 (my messages are garbled junk), and I can see other champions move around in League of Legends (but I can't, and my ping shoots up to 7000).

I've done ping tests but they seem fine.... Then the internet dies and the tests won't even connect so there's no way to test em.

When I'm playing games, ping is fine until the internet disconnects. Then I see what everyone else is doing but I can't do anything, and my ping shoots from 60 to 8000.

Yeah mine's wireless too. Maybe I should get an ethernet cord, anyone know how much they'd cost? *looks around room for Ethernet plug*

Alright! There's two plugs right behind my desk, which is where I keep my computer anyway, so that'd work perfectly! Now I just need some cords. I guess I'll pick em up this weekend, I'm sure there's some at Radio Shack or something.

I found a cable back at home and brought it with me to college. I guess it might be my wire router or something cause now it works PERFECTLY and I haven't had any problems yet. I'll letcha know if it fucks up again.

Nnnnnope! It's still fuckin' up. But now it seems to be fuckin' up in a different way. I don't know, I can't tell if I'm connected through the Ethernet cable or through wireless, does anyone know any way to tell? *is mentally handicapped*
