Check your systray for an icon of two computers linked together (Windows XP) or a crude white rectangle which vaguely resembles an ethernet cable (Windows 7). That'll indicate a wired connection.
On the other side, look for a monitor with green radio waves (Windows XP) or a signal bar meter (Windows 7). That'll be wireless. |

Is it appearing in the device manager? Are there any unknown devices in the device manager?
If you can't find anything that could be your Ethernet adapter in the device manager, I suggest booting up a Linux live CD, and running the command "lspci -nn". The should tell you what kind of Ethernet adapter you have, which should help you find drivers. If there is an unknown device in the device manager that could be your Ethernet adapter, Windows may be able to find a driver for you, or you can look up the PCI ID from the device manager at http://pci-ids.ucw.cz/read/PC/ for clues. I also seem to remember that devices can be disabled from the device manager under Windows. Additionally, network adapters can be disabled from Network Connections. |

@Marzen64: you said you didn't know where to get a Linux CD? I would just download on the net and burn it. If you want to drop me a /msg and I'll help you out.
Also you can get the ID screen in the unknown driver you can search for that.. Dell's website indeed sucks, but it should at least get you the right driver after you've done a *head->desk* bang... You should try another way- go in Device Manager, then in your network adapter's properties, and into driver update/install. Choose to install the driver manually and select the directory where your Dell driver extracted itself.
If the wizard fails to find any compatible driver, then this driver pack isn't the right one. A side note about laptops, some have addon network cards instead of builtin. The addon formats are standard, so if your laptop has an addon network card, it may very well not be the model provided by default. ____________________ Kuribo64 - melonDS want some revolution in your coffee? |

Posted by Marzen64 You might need to disable the wired connection when going for wireless. That's normally not required, but in certain cases, it is. Namely when the wired connection has network access but no internet access. ____________________ Kuribo64 - melonDS want some revolution in your coffee? |

Yesterday my connection went like practically dead. It dropped quite well to the point my download was like 50 or 30 KBS. I mean, I haven't seen that speed in YEARS. I couldn't play any game online nor hardly visit webpages since it was practically worse than dial up or something. |
