I'm not voting because I choose both.
I grew up with a lot of cats and a few dogs. When I got out on my own, I had two cats as pets. Most recently, I got a puppy (now a dog). I love both.
Cats are independent, able to do things for themselves as long as they have enough food and water and a clean place to use the bathroom. What's funny about my cats, is that we have to keep the door to their liter box closed because of the dog. When they need to use the bathroom, they'll let us know. My cats will greet me when I come home from work, but they don't do this all the time. Even when I came back after being gone for a week, to them, it felt like I wasn't really gone. My dog, however, knew I wasn't there and knew that I should be. Dogs are more loyal. However, cats are as well, in their own way. I guess it boils down to their owner and how they're raised. My oldest cat that I've had since before his mother gave birth to him, will hop on my chest when I lay down on the sofa. He's the alpha male and it shows especially when we got our dog. My dog will grab my hand with his mouth (gently) to let me know he wants me to pet his chest. He'll even try to put my hand to his chest, it really is super cute.
Dogs need more training and taking care of than cats do. Training the cats to use the liter box was super easy. With my dog, it took time and more effort.
Either way, I like both and as mentioned before, I'm not voting because this poll is not fair.
