Yeah, I can see how that'd benefit you.

And yeah, I also am using a laptop as my main computer right now... well there's always external keyboards ;)

I have to admit, though, French AZERTY is the worst. Really, try it.

Actually that's false. DVORAK was made with ergonomics in mind. So was QWERTY, but the idea was for it to be anti-ergonomic. Typewriters get fucked up and broken if they're perfect ergonomically.

Spring keyboards are the best, and I'd like to at least learn DVORAK one day, but having used QWERTY for my whole life... I feel like it'll be a nightmare. And I won't get to hunt and peck. And how long would it take to recover my typing speed? My QWERTY sped is probably around 100 wpm or something silly and high like that. I'll bet at DVORAK within a month I could to 50-60.
Pretty much, the improvement in typing speed from DVORAK I heard about was either marginal or anecdotal at best. I'm not sure learning DVORAK would be worth the pain, especially after you learn it and you can't use QWERTY keyboards anymore due to relearned muscle memory (it's already a pain to me to use different computers cause of different mouse sensitivity settings).

We were at a german university for one week. Hilarity ensued when I finally could use a computer and it had a german keyboard (I think I just winded up installed the Swedish keyboard layout though).

I know this is really late to add to the conversation, but I can remove the keys on my laptop's keyboard and put them back on without issue.

I took off my C, G, and I keys for this pic. I snapped them right back in afterward. I only know this is possible because I spilled Pepsi on it before and had to clean it out.

This isn't true, actually. Common misconception, but QWERTY layout is designed specifically so that while typing at a good speed, keystrokes would not hit neighboring typebars at the same speed or in rapid succession. The idea of it being designed to slow down typers to prevent jams is pure anti-QWERTY propaganda. DVORAK may have its advantages but it just isn't significantly better overall. And, frequently using computers in my college's computer lab, I could never hope to succeed in switching to DVORAK for another few years, haha
